I'm just going to go with the 14mm donut o rings. That style served me well for years and everything snugs up well on this. I just wish these places had better instructions. The only thing I can think of is maybe the height of my tail is slightly different because I have the light version vs the normal version but maybe the instructions were never updated. Who knows. But even putting the injectors in the adapter with the smaller o rings before trying the rail itself, they just didn't feel like they seated great. Not something I'll take a chance with.

Decided to get to work on the fuel system on the car in prep for putting the engine in. But, uh oh, no bueno. Anyone have a good condition fuel tank for sale?

At least all the screws came out without stripping.

You can still get a new tank from mazda (w/o the drain plug). Otherwise I'm sure you could find one in the FS section. Man, that is crazy crusty!

Tomsn16 to the rescue!!! 94' Gas tank incoming.

also, made some progress on the intercooler for the 3 rotor. Reworked the end tank, added mounting standoffs on top, now I can work on fitting the bumper and no longer need the jack underneath the intercooler. Once it’s set, I’ll make some stronger brackets on the sides.

The car had sat since 2007 or so. I think some of this time it was outside. Must have gotten moisture in the tank and just gotten really bad over time. Im near Seattle and the car was out on an island in puget sound. Maybe being near salt water did it. Idk if you saw the earlier picture, but the engine bay had surface rust all over it. Under car isn't bad, but will eventually get a clean up. Im just glad tomsn16 had a tank waiting for me

Oh snap. headershield wrapped, jet hot coated, knightsport dual tube downpipe came in today. Spent way to much on this but it will last forever now haha.

When it arrived from Japan (knightsports on the right, autoexe on the left)

After laser cleaning (knightsports on the bottom), was then sent to JetHot for 2000 degree coating. Then had a bung welded on for an O2 sensor at the bottom near where it connects to the midpipe. Will block off the other bungs near the turbo.

Went from JetHot to Headershield, so I don’t have a picture of it with just JetHot, but you can see the black parts.

Really nice how they seal up the edges

New O2 bung

I was thinking it looks like a mummified squiggly body.

I'm excited about it but now you got me all paranoid about OMP so I need to go check out the jets

Yeah I'm paranoid too.

I'm just going to try and run the Denso OMP and associated oil injectors and jets for that time period.

These downpipes look amazing.

If I was not going single I would probably go Dale's route with the same downpipe you guys have and try that modified Y-pipe for the twins.

Yeah. I'm going to try my hand at modifying the 99spec Y pipe like Dale's. I've been practicing welding but don't actually weld on car parts yet as there is a chance I'd destroy them haha. But I feel like the Y pipe mod should be a good place to try it out on. Much better than a $600 intercooler core.

lots of videos on YouTube demonstrating it. I found a guy locally that sells industrial laser cleaning machines and has one at his house he uses for demos.

Yeah, I had searched and found where you discussed it in the downpipe thread.

it’d likely be the perfect way to clean carbon and buildup off used engine rotors etc. if the cost comes down …

I talked to another engine builder (MO at Palm Tree Rotary), and he confirmed that the newer oil injectors (check valves) with the smaller orifice fail at a higher rate. He said some have even been DOA.

He also mentioned the newer jets and spacers are fine to use with the older style larger orifice oil injectors from the early models..

If the spacer is a rubber seal then maybe some of the clogged brass jets are from over tightened oil injectors smashing the seal causing it to fail prematurely?

So yeah, Denso Omp, older injectors and inspect the rubber spacers if you have them on your engine. I will inspect mine when I swap to the older style oil injectors to be safe.

Easy Peasy.

Just found this!!!!! http://www.ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?t=251518

A little progress on the blue FD sequential twin turbo setup. Secondary turbo is in place, now I can figure out the final location for the primary turbo. Aesthetically I want them lined up closely next to each other. However, I won’t know for sure if that will work until I get it mocked up better which is why getting the secondary turbos location finalized was a critical first step. The primary turbo needs to be able to sit high enough for the oil drain to work properly, but I quickly run out of room when factoring in the wastegate actuators, coolant, and oil lines for both turbos.

Wow. Looks crazy cool. When this is done it belongs in a FF scene where they open the engine bays.!!!! So sick!!!! I think you can register it on a site where cars for movies are pulled from.

Ronin 8.8 Grande kit just showed up for the 3 rotor, guess I don’t have much excuse left not to get to work on it.

Gas tank process. A big thanks to @tomsn16 for the replacement tank and awesome shipping as usual. if anyone wants the old tank to send off to a refurbishment place just PM me. I think it can be saved as the outside is still really solid.

Reminder of why the gas tank swap is needed.

Old tank

Out with the old

No rust! The first pleasant surprise on this car (expect lots of surprises on cars that sit for 15 years). Although it looks like a leaky diff.

Old tank

New (to me) tank

Replace my fuel hangar I stole from my blue car. Glad that one has a nice and clean gas tank. Original fuel pump as well.

RaceOnly fuel pump upgraded. Good for 400ish hp

Getting it ready

I like that screen on the bottom of the fuel pump, is the mesh fine enough to catch small debris that could affect the injector nozzle?

It's a good screen but would still need a normal fuel filter prior to the injectors.

a Holley hydramat would serve as a 15 micron pre-filter, but admittedly I have zero experience with fitment in the FD fuel tank and might be ahead of my understanding level.
