The boot plastic was so burnt out by the sun . Tried to rescue it with some plastic refreshing product with black pigments in . It’s not perfect but 200x better than it was before

Half way to really show the difference

Great before and after!
Didn't realize some cars didn't have a trunk light in the trim (the rectangular recess)

Nice improvement! Those blackening products tend not to last too long though so see how it goes.

For sun-faded plastic, you can also use gentle heat to bring the colour back out without needing to add pigment - look up tutorials on YouTube. Some of those whiter marks look like they can be removed with a magic eraser, which you'd need to do if restoring using heat anyway (as the heat locks in any particles sitting on the surface).

Cleaning up the boot

Spend some time this weekend to give the trunk a clean and remove all the small surface rust . After that I sprayed it white and the inner wheel well black . It’s mainly for corrosion protection as you won’t see it anyways when the carpet is in .

Door Handles back from Powdercoating

Just finished refurbishing my Door handles .
still want to change the small bulb to a LED for the Keyhole. Unfortunately the surface finish is a bit wavier than I hoped for . But most important was that the Napol metal handles have now the same color as the rest which makes it just so much more OEM looking .

I forget, did you powder coat the door handles or paint them? They look good! I don't think the waviness is that bad, although it might be hard to tell from pics.

I just noticed you have the top tool tray in the hatch. I didn't even know that existed until recently. USDM models only came with the bottom tool tray, and now I want the top one with the tools lol.

I sandblasted and powdercoated them . I chose powdercoating over paint as it’s more durable . May aim for this car is every detail needs to be oem quality or better . Most JDM cars I have seen habe the tool tray missing . So I am happy mine still got it

Fuel pump controller mounts

So slowly some things are happening again .
i am going to run my 2 fuel pumps via PWM , so I got 2 controllers . My dad built me a nice mount that goes above the ABS ECU . Fits nice and sturdy and looks very OEM .

Nice fit behind the boot plastic

They are from Continental

Part number : A2C53119120
They are quite common on Volvo and Ford .
You can get them for 30 bucks used on ebay or for 489 from NZEFI New
https://www.nzefi.com/product/fuel-p...ed-controller/

I just bought them used off ebay and polished up the casings a bit with a steel brush wheel .

Cool find! Very nice specs indeed:
  1. 18 Amps capacity is good for just about any fuel pump, EWP, or coolant fan.
  2. 100hz PWM input with 20kHz output make it compatible with just about every PWM signal out there.

Different route on fuel rails

I decided to go a different route on the fuel rails . I wasn’t happy with the KG parts rails , so opted for Radium rails . I didn’t order the Fuel pulsation damper so will have to get that at a later stage .
i am really happy with the fitment and overall quality .
next I need to figure out where I want to fit my A1000 Aeromotive regulator and make some nice hard lines for a clean look

So after a long time of no updates I started to take off the door panels and mirror on the passenger side as well as the boot lid trim . Test fitted the diffuser and test fitted the front lip . Hopefully in September I can get her in the paint booth . It’s taking a lot longer than I hoped for . But hopefully this winter I can finish everything so she is ready in March 2022

Took her outside so there is more space

My dad helping me with the diffuser

Test fitting with some wood blocks

My dad drilling the holes for the front mounting portion at the tank

Still need to fit the exhaust tailpipe

Didn’t turn out too bad . Will still fit nicer screws this was just to test before paint

My dad drilling the mounting holes for the bumper lip

Looks so different with the lip fitted

Starting to put the rest of the engine peripherals together . Still need to change the alternator pulley and refurbish the AC pulley .

Didn’t want to spend 170$ plus shipping and tax for a waterpump idler pulley (to make up for the deleted airpump ) Bought a Golf MK1 Alternator pulley and my dad removed the Overrun mechanism and made some sleeves for standard bearings . Now he just has to make the mounting bracket and space it out so the belt runs straight

Pulley refurbish

So was annoyed at having blue annondized pulleys and ugly steel pulleys that looked like crap and ruined the engine bay look . Bought some spray paint that was close to the anondized color . Also cleaned up the aircon compressor clutch that had some rust .

Wow, that spray paint does an awesome job, it looks just like the anodized pulleys. Very impressive!
