Looking out for "JayShadow" Scammer

Refer to this thread for the everything going on: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-rx-7-1993-2002-parts-99/apexi-pfc-re-amemiya-short-shifter-more-939289/

This member "JayShadow" has basically scammed a few of us for parts that he put up for sale. Everyone pretty much sent him money for a PFC, so it wasn't something cheap. He put them up for sale, received payment, then gave everyone some excuse that he can no longer send the parts, and the refunds would be sent via check in the mail, and then disappeared.

My personal issue is that I am in the situation where I cannot get my money back unless it's through legal matters, or he ends up refunding me somehow. You can read the specifics if you're interested in the above mentioned thread.

So now I'm in the process of collecting as much information on him as I can in order to pursue this. The biggest issue is that the deeper I look, the more I realize that this guy has been posting all kinds of flaky information on here and other forums. Over in nopistons I found that he was notorious for giving misleading information on who he was and where he was from.

I tried to see if I can contact some people that he apparently dealt with to see if they can give me any information on him:
According to his threads on here, he had a 93 SSM that he painted yellow and sold to a guy that he says is on this forum named "vayper" but that seems to be misleading because I searched and there's no such user.

He also apparently had his car worked on by a rotary mechanic in Atlanta called "Dave" or "David" who he refers to as "The Auto Doc", but I can't find a listing for somebody like that anywhere either.

He posted a phone number for us to call/txt him, 804-715-4036, but after a quick google search, this is not an actual phone number, it's a fax# to a business that is owned by someone with his apparent last name of "Fowlkes" in Virginia.

He is registered on here, nopistons, and supraforums under the same name "JayShadow". He has mostly listed himself as being from Atlanta but he mentioned to me through PM's that he frequently goes to Virginia and he also posted in a thread that he was supposedly moving to Arizona some time ago. In other forums, he also goes by the name of "ninjafood" and also by "dominicanlegend" and in these, he lists himself as living in California as well.

His names:
James Fowlkes
James Wingate
Jay

E-mails
james.wroman@gmail.com
jamesfowlkes22@yahoo.com

His locations:
Atlanta, GA
Virginia
Phoenix, AZ
California

So to sum it up, if anyone has any kind of legit information on who this guy is or how I can get in contact with him, please PM me. I really appreciate any help as this is over a pretty decent amount of money. Thanks!

There should be a requirement that any seller posts pictures of his items (with username and date) or the for sale ad gets locked -- seen it on other forums, inconvenient for seller but cuts down on this stuff.

For what its worth: I find this forum to be a very difficult place to purchase anything offered at a fair price. An item is posted or offered and within 3 hours there are multiple dibs, PMs and offers to purchase... all without photos of products being posted or the seller having to answer follow-up responses.

This generally leaves cautious potential buyers out of any well-priced items the vast majority of the time and makes scams more easy to pull off.

I miss out on virtually every item I'd like to purchase but haven't gotten scammed yet. Just my 2 cents.

Paypal will cover it but you shouldn't send a personal payment unless you know the person...I spoke with paypal today. If he doesn't respond with a tracking number by the 12th they will pay me regardless of whether he has money or not.

There is a reason for it to be "difficult" - helps weed out the scammers. Which do you prefer - unsupervised classifieds or more scammers weeded out?

Subscribe to that forum if you wish to receive an email whenever anything is posted.

I guess I was unclear, "difficult" because there seems to always be someone willing to throw money at a seller, regardless of lack of description or photos if the item is reasonably priced. Difficult because I send a PM inquiring as to product details and the seller would rather just take the paypal money from the guy behind me begging to send.

I haven't seen a post that says, "Ignore the previous poster's questions, I'm willing to blindly send money" but it happens all the same.

I'd recommend all sellers be requried to post pictures of the product (with their handle and date written on a piece of paper in the picture) or the thread gets locked.

There are multiple warnings on the forums and in stickies to only pay with a CC through Paypal. It's about the only chance you have of getting your money back if things go wrong. Hence the reason Paypal makes it difficult to pay with a credit card.

A good seller is most likely going to have photos of their products + a rep. That being said, you never know when circumstances will make the best seller go bad. Everyone has seen it happen.

Horrible situation and I hope Roller can help find the guy. If he was/is military I believe justice will be forthcoming from our unparalleled catcher of crooks.

Thanks gracer i'll look into the other member.

I made a mistake on the cars he supposedly sold.

He actually bought the SSM from "vayper", said the car was listed on here and was called "frankinrotor" and then he sold it to a guy he says is named Tim Sanks (blk 93 rx7) which he painted yellow.

Here's the actual thread: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t=FrankinRotor

Chiefboon.. I understand what your saying , but try buying from members with a good itrader score. If you need parts there are a few members with 100+ positive trader feedback. Most partout cars and are upstanding sellers.. Or stick with local sales, till you get a feel for the layout on members.. OP I hope you catch the MF. and get your $$ back.. GL 1Tx..

At least online, paypal only gives the seller the information of the buyer, not the other way around. I'm gonna call paypal to see if they'll give me the address they have on file for him.

I have a lot of info on him that I haven't posted, social networking accounts, pictures, addresses, phone numbers, family members. The reason I haven't posted anything is because I want to be 100% certain that it's the right person. I don't want to out somebody on here and have it be someone that person is pretending to be.

I am pretty convinced I have the right info though and I'll tell you why. On supraforums the guy posted pictures from his photobucket account. I was able to find other pictures he posted of himself. And his information checks out with social networking sites that he is indeed "James Fowlkes". The only thing is that he has himself listed in Atlanta, Virginia, & Cali.

I will, but I very highly doubt he's ever gonna post here again, or at least under that account so the negative feedback probably won't matter much.

I am like 1 for 10 with paypal. They have a new policy that if the seller doesn't respond they refund the money no matter what. They go after the seller on their dime.

Just wanted to update that getting my money back from paypal is all but done with, they're not going to do anything about it.

So I have no choice but to go through more serious legal matters for this now.

Mods, is it possible to get the guys IP? I can probably use it as evidence to build some kinda case since I can't get a concrete address for him. Thanks!

#1 I am "the Auto Doctor" and prefer David. if you asked in the s.e. section im sure you would have been told how to get intouch. I rember"jayshadow" i checked out the fd he sold to tim sanks. I lived in the covington Ga area and jay was maybe 15 or 20 min. away from my place. He was living with the parents when we meet, and had the young man att. like he could kick everybodys *** if he wanted. he was a little slow getting me some parts to install and not really a guy i would call a friend, but was better than tim sanks by miles. tims a tall slim blk guy and played pro b.b for some south american team. and im not trying to sound like im descriminating but tim had the chip on his shoulder that he is owed by the world and that his **** dont stink. timswould lie about every thing then if he was caught in the lie he would try to bully his way back to being better than u.... mainly used the "my girls a lawyer" line. he claimed i didnt replace motormounts that were bad... said his mechanic told him that they were the org. mounts still in the car. yet the motor was stolen from the car so they most likly werent the 1st set in the car. I resealed the oil pan and told him the mounts were bad so he wanted to replace them. I got the comp mounts from mazda comp and installed them. then the dick throws up the bs about me not replacing them and the girls a lawyer im gonna sue you ****. I dont lie to people about work i do ect and thanks topoor record keeping icouldnt find the invoice for the mounts .... so with total regreat i gave the ******* the 400$ ish for the mounts and labor back.... only to find the invoice about 6 weeks later. after that ordeal he still would come over wanting me to do work for him and I would say no cuz he already acused me of lieing to him about work i had done and basiclly i told him to stop coming around and ended up geting a restraining order.
I was thinking i had invoices with both jay and tims info on my computer but sofar im not seeing anything.... and did have a harddrive die and lost all the **** on it so that may be the case. if u need me shoot me a pm or something and ill let u know if i do find there info.

Hey David, thanks for posting. I actually did end up getting my money back thanks to my bank not that long after, I forgot to update this thread.

Basically I disputed the small portion of the payment I sent through the bank, and since the paypal payment was a single transaction, they had to refund the entire amount at once. So thankfully after everything I was able to get the money back.

Just to give more info, I found plenty of pictures of the guy while I was investigating. He wasn't a skinny tall guy though so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the Tim guy. He was avg. height, strong guy, used glasses, had several tattoos, and always wore a hat.

But anyway, the situation was over now for me, idk if any of the other guys that got scammed are still pursuing this though. So again thanks for posting David.
