Mark's Alkycontrol System: BEGINNING NOW!

Hey guys,

I'm stoked. Just about to order all the components for my alcohol injection setup from Julio Don @ Alkycontrol.com.

I'll be posting all throughout the installation and tuning with BDC. Wish me luck!

Nope, don't have a strong clutch. If I have to, I'll throw the 4-puck back in. But I want to see how this setup holds.

Well, as of last week, my engine decided to throw a couple of apex seals. Oh well. I'm very disappointed, but hopefully I can get it worked out quickly and fairly inexpensively.

What's sad is that the seals went at 40 mph in 4th gear. Weird, huh? I was stunned/scared/confused when I heard the "puff" when I hadn't even been on it hard since the last time I drove it, which was four or five hours prior to the time the detonation. Even weirder is that I had been experiencing knock (which I blame for the engine failure) at as low as 7.5 psi of boost.. which makes absolutely no sense, I am definitely not starved for fuel. It's my fault, I should have addressed the issue before something like this happened. Stupid me. Luckily I've got a smart guy like Brian helping me out, though. Cheers to you, Brian, your help is greatly appreciated.

I recieved all of my AI stuff from Julio @ Alkycontrol last week and am going to start putting it all on tomorrow. I guess it's kind'a nice (key word: kind'a) that my engine blew, because now I'm going to have to pull all of my intercooler piping and such off and it will make the nozzle installation a breeze, and I'll also be able to check and make sure there are no problems with the engine before I start spraying the good stuff.

I met a guy at school whose dad distributes fuel and oil to dealerships in the metroplex, and he happens to sell methanol at a fairly decent price.. 55 gallon drum for ~120, I believe, so that's a very fair deal. Any of you guys in D/FW who would like more info, just let me know and I'll help ya out.

I'll update as soon as I find out which rotor lost its seals and when I am nearing being finished with the project.

Mark out!

Good news!

Brian, BDC, and I (Brian moreso, haha) tore down my blown motor today. He found one apex seal that lost a small chunk off of the corner... nothing more, nothing less. Looks like it'll be a fairly painfree rebuild then!

I also got the opportunity to feel the AI in action on his car.
WOW.
A few WOT, 24-25 psi, < 1300 degree (F) EGT pulls and a long black skidmark from a second gear runlater, I was happy that I'll soon be spraying the good stuff.

If none of you have had the JOY of seeing the videos he uploaded recently, make sure to check them out (his TeamFC3S.org blog).

I don't care what anyone says, AI is the real deal.

Motor is now rebuilt and ready to go back in along with the alcohol injection and the replacement of my blank cat with a race muffler.

Should be fun. I'm shooting for ~18 psi on the 93 octane / methanol mixture.

what kind of timing numbers were you running when you got the detonation at 8PSI?

Well, drove her home tonight, thanks mainly to good ole BDC! I was having some Haltech issues and finally sorted them out.

I'll get some pictures soon.. starting the Alkycontrol.com system install promptly, as well as installing my wideband. Should all come together just in time for a solid tune.

All is well for now!

Unfortunately, I have no idea. Somehow my Haltech map was zapped.. although I don't know when/how. The car had been acting a little goofy the time prior to detonation, but I had no idea it was as serious a problem as it was. Whatever happened, I'd venture to say that it was something related to the E6K.. and most likely my fault. :x
