HYDROGEN! its near
well not for me, but Mazda has been in the hydrogen RE project for quite some time now.
they have several rx8's running hydrogen and this dual fuel hybrid RE
mazda premacy hybrid hydrogen rotary

2007 Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen RE - First European on-road Showing

and soon you can make hydrogen in your own home, if this idea hits mainstream:

and yes there are benefits for hydrogen usage in a rotary engine compared to the regular *** piston engine.

Don't know if this is new to anyone- http://www.fuelcellsworks.com/Supppage8924.html
Got to see a couple of the GM fuel cell SUv's the other day. They are pretty darn peppy and really quiet. Talked with the head engineer. Seemed to have a bit of distain for Mazda. Said that burning H2 is not a viable option.
Round motor + H2 + turbo = GM drink our tailpipe water. H2 is not that hard to make, especially if you have Sun, Wind, water, Geothermal, pond scum, It can be produced at point of sale.

The reason the rotary is good for hydrogen is because the injection point for hydrogen (in the housing) is far enough away from the combustion chamber to not cause the heat to ignite it before compression.

According to Wikipedia the RE produces a little bit more than half the power it gets with gasoline when run on hydrogen.

Well wonder if the timing is built in.. Hydrogen should make more power. Besides this car is a gasoline car also. and has small hydrogen tank. Hydrogen combustion needs Top dead center or close to it to make full power. Wish i had more cash i sould make one. make the whole car a hydrogen tank and prove it works without all the Gadgets and BS that go's along with it.
