The worst week ever. Need help

Hey guys I really don't post on the forums like I should but I'm having a really bad week. My beloved FD has been hit by a falling branch. It has busted my windshield and messed up my hood and drivers side fender. It could of been worse but I'm having real hard time finding a windshield for my car. If anyone knows of a place with a glass for our cars it would be most appreciated. I'm freaking out Mazda has no windshield in the country to what they tell me with no eta and a 800ish price tag for one. glass company that we deal with at my job can't get one. So yeah I'm coming too anyone of you for suggestions or place I can get one.

Take a deep breath brother, and the good thing is it sounds like there's no real irreversible damage. Take your time and you'll slowly find all the parts at a reasonable price, do you have a daily to drive in the mean time?

I remember searching a while back and hoods and windshields are out there, but take a bit of digging or someone who is good at finding them for a reasonable price. The fenders are available brand new from Mazda, and I would buy those. I'm buying a driver side front fender soon once I send my car to the body shop since it has a bit of bodywork done on that portion. Goodluck.

Get receipts of the parts when you do buy them, and try to substantiate in writing that they will cover your parts that you purchase. If they do, that will make it all the more easier to just buy whatever parts you get and whatever price since I'm sure you'll probably be paying a co-pay deductible, right?

Safelite has windshields for FD's, I had one installed about a year ago. Not too expensive either.

They won’t be OEM. They fit and look fine…and optically mine is fine. But in my experience OEM is the way if you can find one. It will have the correct tint above the AS1 line and a bit better in resisting little chips. Don’t know glass all that well but it seems like the OEM maybe had a coating of some sort that reduced inside fogging. My current one seems to fog a little when I first back it out of the garage even on warm days. Don’t recall the OEM one ever doing that.

Tell whoever to be careful with the windshield molding. Those are pretty scarce too.

I just had glass installed on my car. He didn't seem to have an issue locating it, and it looks fine for me. I believe he also used a standard catalog molding too. I was worried it was going to be a huge hassle finding glass but he must have had the inside line. Call around.

I believe the OEM windshield is NLA now. I looked around for one last year, nothing was available. The tint line on the Safelite seems very similar to my original glass, the only hangup I had was that the Safelite glass all use the 1993-1994 style rear view mirror, and my car is a 1995 with the revised mount. I purchased a new 1993-94 style mirror as a result to fit the glass.

one of the three part numbers is still active. Mazda USA doesn't have any, but that shouldn't be a deterrent, they don't seem to think they need to have parts. the wait in 2022 is really long though

I replaced a windshield right before the covid scare. Like you I had a bit of trouble locating one. The windshields came in two different tints. The original which had a brown tint (93-94 that’s nla), and the later replacement which was blue tint (94-95). The chances of you buying an oem replacement and it not being damaged in shipping are slim. I would not even waste the time and energy on it. The best piece of information I can give you is when you’re searching, call any place that does auto glass. Tell them you want a windshield for a 95 RX7 with blue tint. Ask them to confirm they have that. If you have to drive a bit to pick it up it’s going to be well worth it. I found one about 30 minutes from me at that point and it was about $127. Save your receipt, and present it to the shop doing the work when you drop the shield off. Good luck.

I had my original perfect windshield PPF'd, was unsure whether it was worth it at the time, but I have since seen two threads where people are not able to find new OEM windshields, so I'm glad that I did it in retrospect. Might be something to look into for anyone that has a nice OEM windshield.

Fogging is often made worse by plasticizer vaporizing from plastics in the car interior, or from similar deposits from where it was stored. A REAL good cleaning may help that. There are also rub-on coatings that claim to reduce fogging - never have tried one on a car windshield, though. They are marginally effective on helmet visors.

Yeah, I’ve cleaned it several times since installation.
I had a similar problem after I got an aftermarket WS installed on an old pickup. That’s why I suspected it was something to do with the glass. It’s not terrible but a little annoying. I wished I’d pushed harder for an OEM, but I didn’t want to lose a driving season.

Update on my windshield hunt safelite has our glass. Had an appointment to install this last Friday. Well they tried. Unfortunately my dude at safelite found really bad rust on the body. Well I guess a tree limb falling on the 7 was a blessing in disguise. There was sign of a problem with the glass on the car. Apparently the car had the glass removed at one point and the person who put the glass did a shitty job😡 So I'm going to get a body shop to get me a quote to fix it later next week. I'll try to upload some pictures that the tech from safelite texted me. I have the car at my dealer with the glass out covered

That car did a lot of sitting outside! It can be fixed but the paint blend on the roof is going to b my air you want to repaint the whole car. I’d also recommend getting some cavity wax on the back side of all of that after the repair.
