I just finished flushing out my system thoroughly with demineralised water and installing a alloy AST, the crap that came out of the system was amazing, refreshing knowing it's gone. Also pulled the overflow out and that had all sorts of gunk in it also. However, I never used specific cleaner, I'm not sure how effective they are etc but definately flush the hell out of it and fill with preferred ratio of coolant/water.
