my gauge is acting crazy when the fans come on and it shows the temp rising. some have said that it could be due to the amount of power the fans draw, making the voltage to the gauge cause fluctuations

Check out my thread on my temp gauge install...I did run into a couple of problems. First I tried to ghetto rig it, but then I still had problems when I used wire crimps. My problem ended up being mixed up wires...I mixed up the purple and blue wires on my gauge (I'm partially colr blind.
-Gauge 12 V power
Attached a fuse tap and plugged it into the ignition slot. There are two open slots above all the fuse box (next to clutch pedal). I used the one on the right... only the right one will work, cause I tried the left one and got no power.
-Gauge ground
For my gauge ground I hoooked it up to a bolt behind the UIM towards the passenger side of the UIM. There is a grounding wire that hookos up to the passenger side.
-Sender ground
For the temp sender, you dont have to actually ground it, the metal to metal contact with the thermohousing serves as the senders ground. So a seperate grounding wire for the sender is not necessary.
Also, I ended up breaking the small fiberboard washer which goes on the top of the sender. I e-mailed Nordskog tech support, and tey said I could get any non-conductive material (rubber plastic) to replace the fragile fiberboard washer I broke. I went to the hardware store and bought some rubber washers which I used to "sandwich" the sender wire that goes to the gauge. With the rubber washers in place, nothing can come in contact with the wiring on the sender probe.
-Dimmer wire
I grounded this to a bolt under my shifter console so that I could get max illumination, even at night.
Anyways, here is the thread.

Here are some pics:
-GAUGE 12 v POWER SOURCE FUSE TAPPED INTO FUSE BOX (RED WIRE).
-SENDER PROBE WITH RUBBER WASHERS
-GAUGE MAIN GROUND (behind the large metal loop).

thanks, I hope this helps, it is driving me f*&king crazy.
I don't know about the fiber board washer, don't think mine had one. I can't remember if I used teflon tape when installing the sender. It is grounded with a seperate wire either way to the filler neck, but I wonder if I shouldn't see and remove the teflon if it is there.
