Nasty posts? Look at this stuff, frankly I think the one guy should get banned. He started a thread attacking a forum member and then attacked him with profanity the entire thread.

If we made people pay to post their questions that would solve the stupid question problem right quick.

Yeah, but Mark tends to bring out the worst in people because he's such a royal pain in the ***, so the fouls offset each other.

Im surprised its he doesnt have his mats listed as "dual" floormats or "TWIN"!

He could definitely squeeze some more adjectives in there to increase his sig size.

Well, at first I was afraid to voice an idea in this thread because, *gasp*, im only 18 years of age, but , who knows, maybe you senior members might enjoy this idea.

First and foremost, the idea of the "Advanced Section" In the forum has mixed opinions, some thought it was a great idea, some thought it was downright horrible to segregate each "Status" of individual members. In the end, it doesnt seem like its going to happen as Mahjik brought up a good point; this exact thread will eventually come up again as the Advanced Section will become to noobish for some people, and everyone will want a Highly-Advanced Section, and then the Highly-Advanced section will become too noobish and people....... do I need to go on? I think you all get the point..

So, I thought of an idea that would allow us to keep the same structure, but fix up the issue of the Mislead new members.

What if we made some sort of posting status, or some sort of system to rate the value of each members post in the Third gen and other techinal sections, outside of who has the most posts? For example, we make a voting system of some sort when members are actually rated on in the quality of information and feedback they have in their posts. Like a point system, or a star system.

5 stars = Great, reputatble source that 9/10 times is creditable, and someone whom you do not need to fear following when they give you suggestion.

1 star = crap, dont listen to em.

Instead of an Advanced section of the forum, why not an Advanced member status where the reputation of a person on the forum actually has an effect?

I'll continue this more later, but I'm afraid I must run. I just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Steve

I think this is just a cop-out for not doing anything about it, personally.

Advanced Tech sections work on other forums. There's always going to be something that people who frequent them don't want to read, but it's the volume of threads we're talking about. The volume is much, much lower if the standards of what constitutes an advanced post are maintained and everything else is moved. It's the current noise level in this forum that is a major problem. It's like an extension of the lounge on some days.

An Advanced Tech section would not tolerate the "I'm bored, I think I'll post something" threads that regularly show up here, and the basic-level questions that could be answered if the person actually bothered to search would be eliminated also. Whether a technical question was advanced enough to warrant keeping would be at the discretion of the mods, with help from the members who read the Advanced Tech section. Anything else would not be tolerated.

What if we made some sort of posting status, or some sort of system to rate the value of each members post in the Third gen and other techinal sections, outside of who has the most posts?
I've never seen a rating system that worked effectively. There are too many ways to affect the rating of a member to make it an accurate indication of the "value" of their experience and advice.

Besides, what would it solve? You'd still have all the newbies asking the same stupid questions.

Yeah some of the signatures floating around here are rediculous. These people that have big pics in the their signature and attach it to every post in every thread gets old real quick.. There needs to be a once per thread limit on posting signatures.

That's not a bad idea. It'd allow people to post their signature to help with getting answers to their questions or to prove their prowess in the kills forum, but wouldn't allow them to make it as annoying. Some people seem to be actively checking the "show signature" box on every post. Like this...

Okay.

Here is the real question:

Why are we always ending up in a state where it just stays as suggestion? It seems like the active moderators want to make a lot of useful and constructive changes - but they are not able to.

What is causing that?

Right now, the forum is waiting on the next version of the forum software. There are a lot of changes being discussed but the consensus is to wait until the new version is available to see what options it has....

Further To Good Guys Leaving....

Hi , Im pretty new to these cars and REAL new to this forum, I read the post on good guys leaving... Now since I owned my FD I've been getting all my advice from a mate, that was until I came across Rx7club and I tended to find that most of my questions were answered with no problems at all, but that also makes me think that sumtimes people on the site like to THINK they know the answers and in doing so end up causing others problems. So I can see why all the 'good guys' bugger off.
Now my mate is what you would consider a 'good guy' and he's told me so stay the **** away from these types of forums because in his opinion no-one knows what their talkin about and I have to be honest I do trust him, just so you know he owns his own Rotary workshop, he has 6 FD's,all single turbo and ported, sum drag, sum track and one realy awesome drag/show ( I am in the process of geting pics) he also owns a number of RX3s, R100s and a 20b Cosmo, along with a 13b powered pickup . all are fully worked and dyno tuned at his workshop, geeez this guy did his first rebulid when he was 15, he is now 29!!

like I said all the advice I have had from this site has been good and worked fine ( well so far )
So is my mate just trippin???? or have all the 'good guys' really gone???

spekdah, all I can say is: keep reading and searching. Try to get a feel for who's actually giving useful advise.

You're lucky to have such a friend! He's 95% right, in a sense. Sometimes, there's a lot of forum monkeys flinging crap around here, especially in "other" forums. But 5% of the time, a gorilla flings gold. It's up to you to find out who the gorillas are.

OK, I'm tired of this metaphor now.
