Whoosh???

I seem to have a whoosh sound coming from the passenger of the car and light boost. I cannot tell if it is some kind of leak or my bov or stock crv. The coupler coming from the y-pipe seems fairly secure but is quite old should I be suspicious, or should I maybe replace with new? And if it is not that then what could it be?

Check the hose on your air compressor. Mine cracked and had the same symtoms. When does it happen, durring acceleration or when you let off.

Check the coupler between the y-pipe and crossover pipe. Mine had a tear right there and did the same thing. You'll need to probably remove the coupler to see if theres any tears in it. Trying to look at it in the car won't do any good unless its a huge rip.

If that looks ok, check out the crossover pipe, it could have a crack in it. Usually you cant see the cracks in it, but you can pressure test it some how. Also look at all the other couplers and make sure they are ok. Go through all the intercooler piping and tighten it all up!

A quick way to test if it's the air pump is to disconnect the electrical connector. It's easy to access, and when I disconnected mine the sound went away, proving it was air pump related. A $10.00 Mazda air pump connector hose (and a lot of swearing trying to install the thing) and mine was fixed. The hose size seems to be an uncommon one, you'll save a lot of time by calling Ray at Malloy Mazda and ordering one from him. (This is assuming the air pump hose is actually the problem)

It's likely a boost leak if you're hearing a whooshing only under boost. If it was an air pump leak, you'd hear it pretty much all the time.

The Y-pipe coupler can NOT be judged with it on the car. You have to pull the pipe off and fully inspect it. Most cracks are down low where they can't be seen.

The hoses to the CRV and ABV (the two stock blowoff valves) also get tired and split where they meet the y-pipe.

Andy, just let me look at the car next time I see you. I'm sure it's something simple.
