Thumbs down Whats wrong after i rebuilt the engine !!!

After one year of waiting to rebuilt my 93 rx-7 engine we just installed it today and the car its not runing at all !! you can hear the engine is trying to start up, but nothing !

We checked every thing the ignition the fuel line and others. I assume that the rebuilt was not ok though the guy who rebuilt it followed the video step by step, but when we checked the engine compression is reading 60 !!!

I guess its just my luck...or should we try siveral time before we judge on it ?? and shouldnt it atleast start even if the compression is not ok??

if the housings and apex seals are new or just one of them the compression will be a little low until the apex seals wear in during break-in. not sure exactly at what level but lower none the less. Do you have good fuel pressure and did you hold the spark plug against the block to check for spark?

take some automatic transmission fluid and squirt it in the intake. That should help build up the compression...only other think i can think of is that you might have bad springs on the engine causing the apex seals to not fully seal against the rotor housing. Oh well either way good luck

Change plugs yet? They are known for fouling out on startup.

dont' put it in your intake

if you do use ATF put it in the spark plug holes.

Pull your fuse then try to start it. That's the easiest way to unflood.

Check for spark/fuel. You have compression.

Did you prime the fuel system before trying to start it?

Get a set of cheap copper hotter plugs 6's/8's.
Make shure the wires are connected correctly and snapped in to the distributor.
pull the fuel pump relay
remove all the plugs
crank the engine for a few seconds (you should see fuel vapor spitting out)
install the new plugs
make sure you hear and feel the "snap" when the boot is pushed on the plug all the way
insert fuel pump relay
connect a jump starter to the battery (for extra juice & yer battery is prolly draining allready)
step down on the gas pedal to open the throttle plates
crank the engine
let go of the key after it engages
lower the gas pedal to 2krpm and hold untill you feel it won't die (otherwise all this again)
the car needs to idle for at least 15 min buring off assembly lube
constantly check for leaks and monitor temps

Make sure when you get it started that you're in the car and keeping the revs up there or else it might die and then you'll have a lot of problems starting it back up. I feel for you. If you can, try and put oil in both of the UIM nipples with a silicone hose and a squirter. That will help a lot with the low compression start up (a trick my mechanic told me).

ATF in the UIM nipples works great on a motor that isn't too badly flooded. Helluva lot easier than removing the plugs.
