what turbos to get?
I know there has been a lot of info and some different opions regarding this topic but I was hoping a few of you could chime in with pros and cons regarding my options for upgrading the sequentials. I am having my motor rebuilt by Pettit and it will be street ported. My front turbo has a lot of play in it so I will replce them while the motor is out. I want to know if I should go with replacement stocks, the "99 efini's" or BNR's stage 3? I seen a lot of people who feel the 99's are not that much of an upgrade from the stocks, based on the claimed horsepower increase has a lot to do with running higher boost and the lack of emissions controls on the japanese version cars. A few people have said the BNR's are truely an upgrade over both stock and the 99 versions. Since they are pretty much the same pricing, #2200 for stock, 2350 for BNR and 2595 for efini, which option is going the be most reliable and have the best responce and power output? Basically, are the BNR's or the99's worth any more than the stocks? Thanks for any help in making up my mind. By the way I am not looking to push any more than about 12-13 psi so I don't what kind of rwhp people can get at 15psi+, I want a reliable, quick everyday driver.

Im looking at the BNR stage 3s,,, they sound awsome,,, they can flow much more boost than standard turbos,, very little lag in sequential mode and able to produce 400BHP with mods,, whats the downside?????????????

less emissions on JDM = more power??? that's news to me - the USDM FDs manage to make the *same* power as the equivalent JDM FDs, with the secondary cat in place.
99-spec turbos (for lack of a better name, and 'efini' is totally wrong) - do have a slightly better power potential. Slightly better. They have noticeably better spool up. They actually have less power than the early versions, in some part(s) of the power curve, apparently. The big downside - they are known to blow the abraidable seal when run at higher boost for sustained periods. That would say to me, if you are trying to achieve big boost/big power on the twins - go for the BNRs.

Hello all.
Thanks for all the support. If you are running synthetic, I can set you up with a set that will be compatable with it. It will have to be special order, but the cost will be the same.

Won't it cause the seals to wear down quicker? Regardless, if you're going to pay 2200 for a stock replacement, go ahead and get the BNRs. I dont know what you want to use the car for, but if I was paying that much, I may as well go ahead and get the BNRs. Now if you were going to find a decent used set of twins, I'd do that and pay a few hundred, and spend the rest on myself.
