what is that? a miata?

has anyone else ever been asked that in your fd?

i couldn't think of anything to say that would express how much he had ruined my life so i just said no after a long pause.

Last week a guy in a carpark asked me if I was driving a Celica....

I dont think it gets much worse than that.

Edit: Also get the fuel station attendants give me things like "Oh you're parked over at pump #5 in that cute little sports car."

Lady, you're the one driving the "cute" 1989 Ford Festiva parked in the employee space. Shut up.

Twice for Miata, viper and vette so far. The viper comment was from some little kids...

there are a lot of confused people wandering around out there.

The miata comment really isnt *that* far off. In many ways the FD looks like a more aggressive non-convertible first gen Miata. If you dont "see it" just seek out the convertible FD pics.

Since the car has Efini emblems on, no one knows for sure what it is until they see the rear. I kept the small mazda logo under the RX-7. My car is completely stock looking. So mistaking it for "lesser" vehicles doesn't happen.

Surprisingly enough, most people do know what is once they see the mazda logo in the back.

Funniest moment was stopping for fuel in a relatively small town. Gas attendants were 2 high school girls. I had to come into the hut to pay for fuel. But all the while I was fueling the car I could see they were staring at the car. Once I walked in, first thing they said "aren't you a little young to be driving that Ferrari mister???"

I have gotten mistaken for a Ferrari 3 times total. And only once as a Miata indirectly. Was just sitting in traffic when some lady in an SUV next to me said, "how come your cars roof doesn't go down? Isn't that one the one that goes down??" I politely said "This is the coupe version. You're talking about the convertible" Light turned green and I quickly got out of there to avoid that lady.

Miata's big brother would be my response. However, people don't talk to people in a Black RX-7s for some reason....

Even at other Tuner gatherings, the black mysterious RX-7 gets a questionable stare and that is all. I don't really like the black for keeping it clean, but it does have an attitude that I really appreciate.

I do get that too for some extent. When I drive the red R2, people want to know things about the car. They approach you.

Whenever I drive my black FD, or my father's black FD, people dont come near me. They dont approach, dont look at you, and make special moves to cut you off in traffic and not let you merge, at any cost.

Whereas the red car.. People smile and wave and let you merge, always. What the hell is it about black??

My car's Debadged , Not really by choice haven't gotten around to sticking the efini emblems I got for it hah

but I only had it mistaken once , i was at a light and the guy next to me in a honda asked howmuch i had invested in my miata.

I just replied with a simple its not a miata . then light turned green

I have gotten asked more then a few times what car it was , funniest being a couple of elder ladies asking me from 2 lanes across.

I don't think I've had anyone really mistake the car just yet. I've been to a few parties lately where people have asked what that "sweet car" "badass car" in the driveway was. But I don't think anyone ever called it anything it wasn't.

I have a buddy in FL with an R34 Skyline, One night driving on the coast a couple girls pulled up next to us at a red light and the driver said "That's a cool Altima!"

They looked confused when both of us just sort of stared at them dumfounded. haha!

I have had a miata owner ask me if it was an Mx5. I told him it was an Rx7 and he replied oh nice Mx7. I've also been asked if its the new Corvette (before the new corvette was released). I get people all the time asking me what car it is.

I have had kids point and say "Daddy look at that little car!" or have a gas attendant call my car "cute." That's probably the most annoying...."Cute"

I get miata all the time, most recently last Saturday. I think it looks extremely similar, especially if someone hasn't seen a miata with a hardtop recently they may think that's what we have.

Of course, I really like miatas and try not to get butt-hurt over it.

i havent had anyone come up to me calling it a different car yet... i have efini emblems on mine and people usually just ask "what is that?"

people are generally more shocked when they ask what year the car is and i say 93... they always think its much newer.

i can see how people can make the mistake of calling the fd a miata. i have an nb miata as my daily and they have very similar lines.

I've gotten the Miata one a few times (fiance owns an NA Miata that I do enjoy though), nice car, is that a Porsche/Ferrari/Lamborghini?, etc. But I think the most annoying one was when some high schooler said that's a cute car...and it was a guy who said that...

One autocrosser asked me "how come your miata has a fixed roof."

Can't really blame him when 90% of cars at auto-x are Miatas, but damn to me the FD looks huge right next to a Miata.

He was probably thinking "This new Miata sure looks like a big heavy pig!"
