Most have no idea what it is. The only thing I've been asked is if it was a Ferrari. But, out of everything, most are more blown away when I tell them what year it is.

i can see the resemblance....

you should have shook his hand and thanked him for the tip.

i do hear those storms were quite capable, when modified they could do almost 100 mph.

I get asked if it a Viper, probably because of the door handles. One asked me what an Antiera was. Antiera was the wheels that were on the car when I bought it.

Geo storm? Sunfire? Ouch.

I have had my FD for a few weeks, and I had a guy hang out his window to yell "OMG sick f-ing car man! Nice FD". And then later that day a gas station kid said "that is an awesome Porsche. Is it yours?" I guess he thought I looked too young/poor to own a nice car. I asked him if he meant the white one (I was the only car), he said yes and I said, that's my Mazda.

The Vette/Viper comments are about the only ones that make sense to me. The lines are way off from miata/geo/pontiac/ford etc.

He was in shock. haha

the lines are off from a miata? do i need to put up pictures? yes they're not distinctly similar but they are still similar. but then i guess most people are too offended to even think of it. it is a bit more "bubble butt" for most people to not notice the difference, not to mention the rather large size difference.

stock they're rather easy to differentiate, put a simple body kit on and you start to see the resemblances quite easy. the later model miatas basically copied many of the FD's features.

of course an enthusiast will pick apart the differences, the average passerby will note the similarities.

i think that looks more similar to an FD than any viper, even modified i have seen does.

the series 1 is as close as it gets, and once you look at the rear the difference sticks out like a sore thumb. not to mention the mile long front end on the viper for that monster V10. similar? somewhat, about as close as the miata, but of course people will take more offense to miata comments.

Ok, with that kit, the miata is very similar to an FD. I guess in my head I just picture the round features and friendly looks of the miata only. Especially with the hardtop, I agree they are similar.

EDIT: just noticed that is a NB. I was thinking of an NA miata. Either way though, similar enough.

That's a geo storm?!?! Sweet Jesus. I would've felt really depressed if I heard that.

I really like the yellow FD shot!! Very nice.

Never liked Vipers. Always felt you would have to be a cave man to drive one of those things. Such a huge car and hardly any room inside for passengers.

Thank God my car gets mistaken for a Ferrari or a Porsche.

I especially like it when traffic gets out of your way. It's funny to see everyone gets out of your way when you're driving the FD. It doesn't happen in any other car I've been in, unless of course you're in an actual Ferrari or other exotic vehicle.

This happens alot , and I dont like it when it does I usually like to follow thAT guy who's going a bit over the speed limit , just follow him a few car paces behind and he's the first one to catch the cops eye!

I used ot do it all the time in the miata. not somuch in the 7 I'm the one that gets followed !

I actually prefer it when traffic parts way. It lets me see further.

I usually know where the cops are sitting in most of the routes I take... Never like following anyone. They're usually going too slow.

I've gotten Ferrari once or twice. I get "what is that" quite often, especially when it's loping a little at idle. When I go to cruise ins I get a FLOCK of people around the car, because it's often the only one there... it's funny when there is 1 FD, 15GTRs, 8 Ferraris, Bentleys, and a few Lamborghinis and the FD has a crowd.

It's not uncommon to have guys circle me when I'm cruising on the interstate, looking the car over the whole time.

Interesting to see what the difference in road users attitudes are like, USA vs Australia.
Here in Aus, people in anything newer than the FD (new SUVs, etc) make special moves to cut you off, barge in, and get in front of the FD NO MATTER WHAT
The hatred and jealously is mind blowing sometimes.

Perfect case- last weekend we drove to the hardware store in the FD.
To my left hand side was a lane of traffic that did not continue (IE dead end, you must merge in). This blonde woman in a brand new big Toyota SUV nails it up alongside me in that lane. She doesnt even indicate, but begins to barge the nose of the SUV in front of my FD (where there is 4 feet space to the car in front) and kept pushing in, to the point that if I had not got on the brakes, she would have hit the front of the FD. Once she got in front of me, she put her drivers window down, and slyly stuck her arm out, giving me the finger.

I had none of this, so I moved over into the left lane that was running out, gunned it in 2nd pretty hard (remembering this is a stock auto so you have to poke it hard to wake it up) and shot past her and merged in 5 or 6 cars ahead.

At the turn in to the hardware store, I slowed right down to walking speed and deliberately waited for her to cruise up. I then rolled my drivers window down and gave her the thumbs down and then the finger, really cheeky. She blasted her horn, and you could actually see her slamming into the steering wheel, hands flying, swearing, having a full blown rage attack that the FD had got in front of her big shiny new SUV.... You could actually see her slamming herself in and out of the drivers seat, against the seatbelt, like she was having a fit or something, red faced and everything
I swear Australians are the most materialistic, jealous people around. Because this sort of thing is a weekly occurrence, seems like.

Oh don't worry. I've had a few of those happen. Never in the FD, but in my NC miata. Happens all the time. Everyone thinks because the car is small, their big 5000lb vehicle is naturally "better".
Depending in the area, here in Canada if you go west of the GTA, you get all the corolla and camery drivers getting in your way. Last to merge and they think because they signalled, they're coming into your lane and no matter what.

And of course you get those people that run the merger lane till the very end and expect you to give them room. Even though you've been right along side them all along.

People get their licenses in crackerjack boxes nowadays.

It never happens in the FD. Which is probably why I enjoy driving it so much.
You will get people trying to "outrun" you stop light to stop light. And I mean stupid people who can't view further than the end of their hood. You can see the next light is turning red and they still take off like they were racing you. Only to come to a stop at the next light.

The best is when people think they can keep up with you on the on ramps. They follow really close to the bumper well before the entrance. I take it nice and easy entering the ramp, and begin to accelerate into the corner. They either quickly get the hint and I lose them at the exit, or they go careening into the guard rail. I've seen it happen more than a few times. They end up running into the rail or the ditch just entering the highway. Kinda funny to watch.

"RX-7 bodykits" on miatas make them look like RX-7s. I think they light make just about any 2 seater RWD car look like one though...

That viper-looking FD is intersting!

Had a first today. Putting some oil in before the fuel attendant (here in oregon we don't pump our own gas) filled up my car. He said, "um, is this thing a motorcycle or something?"

Haha.

I've never gotten Miata...I've gotten RX8, "Honda" (alot), and Maserati (wtf?)

but the most common is "What is that?"

my response if the person asking is driving a high end car "If you have to ask...you don't deserve to know..."
