Water Pump Pulley Fix?

I have found a possible solution for the water pump pulley. I have the greddy pulleys with the air pump delete, and like most people, have a problem with the belt slipping. I looked at the idler kits but I have a clearance issue with my single turbo. I then looked at how to make the pulley better. I thought about coatings but was unsure about adhesion and how to evenly apply the material. I then thought about a small rubber sleeve or belt that would slide over the pulley. This is what I found that may work. Don't laugh, its a vacuum cleaner belt (Hoover part #38528035) It is the same width as the water pump belt and is a tight fit on the pulley. I am still testing the setup and have very few miles on it but I have taken it to redline with no problems. This is what it looks like on the pulley. It s a definite improvement on belt grip, and at $2 a belt its a cheap fix. I will continue to test the setup for longevity, but I just wanted to but some info out there.

I've sprayed windex on my belts to help before... or try running a bar of soap under the belt if the windex doesn't work... then i would try the hoover belt ha ha...

The belt that goes around the pulley is smooth on both sides. It just give the main belt traction against the pulley. I'm not sure what length it is.

you know that spray-able truck bed liner might an option? it's textured and easily applied. tape off the areas and spray it on the grooving.. that'd increase friction with the belt... just a thought.

Bearing wear is any issue with or without the idler pullies if the belt is over-tightened.

The idler system is the best option, it increases belt contact from 20% to about 50%. My problem is, I don't have room for the idler. I looked at the Rhino lining and rubber products like plasti dip, it may work.

The hoover belt failed today. I don't know if it snapped or fell off, but it only lasted about 75 miles. I think it came of at high RPMs. Back to the drawing board.

So I bought the Pineapple Racing air pump delete kit and I had to carefully remove some aluminum off the water pump housing so that the belt wouldn't rub but it fits.

I was curious to know how other's single turbo kit gets in the way? I have a single turbo kit but it doesn't get in the way.

thanks

My turbo is clocked so that the compressor housing is almost touching the water neck.

The Pineapple kit will work with most short runner singles. Guys with long runner or a large turbo have fitment issues.
