V-Mounts Without Vented Bonnets?

who of you's have them and how well do they work? i live in australia where a vented bonnet is no where near as easy to come by as what they seem to be in the states. or as cheap. ie around $1000 for a hideous one. or get one from RHDJapan.com for $2k-$3k. preferably looking for temps taken in areas where it gets between 30-40 degrees C during the day. pics of your setups would be wicked also.

Brad.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of shops down in Sydney that deal with bodykits etc. can help you out. Or you can try places like Japanese Motorsport in Adelaide, maybe they can import a second hand in good condition or a new one for you on request.

can you get ducts or cowls? A couple of people have cut out the sheet metal, finished the edges and lined the hole with mesh. That should be really cheap.

Here is a good thread on the topic of V-Mounts
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-gen-general-discussion-322/v-mount-setup-pics-623892/

There are a few other threads if you want to continue researching.

Summary - Vmount works great. Proven in testing. Vented hood probably helps but no one has done before/after testing so who knows if it helps enough to be worth the expense.

If they are all so ugly... why not modify a stock style hood? Those tend to be much cheaper anyways.

Modding a stock hood (and having it look proper) is no easy task.

That is why I said stock style. I am going to get a fiberglass stock style hood and vent it how I want it vented. Fiberglassing is relatively easy.

But I agree with you... making anything custom look right is never easy, especially when it comes to aero/body work.

....You don't need a vented hood. A proper v-mount runs everything cooler than stock all the way around, including engine compartment temps; even in high ambients. There should be no adverse effect from the heat rejected by your IC.

i just figured a vent or some ducting would help quite a bit. ductig for the vmount, and then vented hood on top would help release some of the hot air
