Red face Turbos on the Verge

Well.. I guess that I should be happy that my stock syncs have lasted 96k.. I just picked up a Greddy pully kit and installed it last night. While i was removing my intercooler piping i noticed that I have oil throughout my intake system and a small amount was pooled in my intercooler. arg! Im still holding boost fine and the oil that Im loosing is not that significant but I think that I must have a leak in one or both of my turbos. Does anyone have any suggestions on another possible reason for the oil? I'm planning on adding a single this winter but Id still like to try to drive until the snow starts to fly up here.. The only other thing that I have noticed is that my oil psi has been droping under boost. I think that my oil psi sending unit is leaking slightly but a fix is in the works once I get a new gauge this next week.

thanks,

Rick

A small amount of oil is normal and expected in the intake tract. How much oil did you see?

When I pulled my piping I had around 1 tablespoon in each of the horizontal pipes.. The stock IC had ~2 tablespoons polled in the bottom of it. I have not noticed any excessive exhaust smoking but the amount seemmed to be a bit more then typical..

thx

Hmm, seems a little bit high, but not excessive. When was the last time you had the pipes off? How much did you notice then? More importantly how are the turbos acting? Are you getting a proper 10-8-10 boost pattern? If the turbos are acting well and you have a normal boost pattern then I'd clean out the hoses and IC and reinstall everything, pull them again in about 1K miles and reinspect.

Thats typical esp. if you keep your oil levels above the 1/2 mark and do any hard cornering. If you're concerned about your turbos, take off the plastic underbelly and take a look at the underside of the turbos. Thats where you should look for the presence of excess oil.

I had my pipes off 2 days ago and that is when i noticed the excess oil... Im holding boost properly, i actually boost @ 12-11-12.(PFC) on 93 oct pump.. Has anyone ever considered a catch can to deal with this problem?
I don't drive the car @ WOT all the time but i do enjoy holding the occasional corner.

Also, Im not seeing any excessive oil on the external portion of the turbos..

thanks for all the info.

In that case I wouldn't worry at all. Here is some info on catch cans:
