I find it a little scary that you would ask for that info after telling us you don't have a steering rack....

Just get a new OEM rack or buy a used OEM from an accident car.

Steering Ratio- 16.6 : 1
Turns lock to lock- 2.9

(info from http://www.rx7.net.nz/usspec.htm )

That should get you started. I can measure the angle at the wheels if you want.

Why is it that nobody can just answer a simple tech question for someone without telling them what they should be doing on an only half related subject?

Jordon, make it easy on yourself and try Fritz Flynn or Jeff Hoskinson for a used rack, then send it to Maval Gear (or call them and see if they've got a core in stock) to have it converted to full manual operation.

I've posted several times on the Maval conversion (which I stumbled across in talking to Dave Batke about their Unisteer universal racks) so just search on the name or head to their web site: http://www.mavalgear.com.

$165 for the conversion, $60 more for the core if you don't have a rack and they have one in stock. I just boxed up my stock rack, threw in a check for $165 and sent it off.

awesome, thanks for the information . rynberg/Jim.. this is TOTALLY unrelated to my car... I am doing a full write up on the 3rd gen RX7, i have already modeled (in detail) the suspension.. roll centers, CM location, roll rates, LLTD, etc etc. I am a mech engr btw.

Jim-
back to my car... I was going to just go with keeping the power steering- I am concerned with how tough the car will be to steer with 17x9s with 245s on them in parking lots and such. this will essentially be my daily driver.

You can PM Ptrhahn about the Maval conversion, that way you can talk with someone who's actually DRIVEN the car with the Maval conversion....

How is that different from someone who eliminated the power steering on their car shortly after buying it? I know you were trying to be humorous, but seriously...

If anything, the Maval conversion reduces effort slightly by eliminating the fluid in the rack and the internal pistons. If you want to take a "test drive", though, just remove your power steering belt.

If you've ever tried to turn the steering wheel in a car without the engine running, you know that it is difficult to turn. However, with just a little motion (i.e. car rolling), it is very easy to turn the wheels. The question is, are you the type of person who sits in one spot and cranks the steering wheel in a different direction before moving, or are you the type of person who makes wheel adjustments while the car is in motion?

Seriously, it took almost no change on my part to adjust to not having power steering, and I had P245s in front also. I never once wanted to go back, and to this day, it's still one of my favorite mods. So much so that I had Maval Gear permanently convert my rack.

yea, but I drove my camaro !P/S once.. it SUCKED at any kind of low speed, like, took both hands yanking on the wheel to turn. that was a heavier car/wheel package tho.

I didnt mind driving a NSX around a parking lot tho, just had to remember it was !p/s

I'd love to see your results when you're finished. Is this just a personal project, or are you getting credits for it?

Yeah, 1,000 lbs. makes a big difference, especially when a large percentage of it is over the front wheels.

While on the subject of steering, does anyone know of a way to change the ratio on our steering racks?

There's a company that makes quick steering racks for Subarus by modifying the internals of the stock rack. I've never seen anything like it for RX-7's, and I don't know enough about them to try and make on on my own.
