OR Starting issues

For about a week my fd has been having starting issues during cold start and now even when it has cooled for an hour or so. Sounds like it wants to start but after several cranks it might get lucky and start. Could you please give me any and all insight on this problem? Thanks in advance

When was the last time you replaced the spark plugs? When it does start from cold does it have black smoke coming out the exhaust?

Just changed the spark plugs and cranked it a few times to get all the excess fuel and oil before installing but still having the same problems. Battery or coils maybe? I'm guessing cuz that's all I can do at the moment :/

If it's cranking over fast then it's not the battery. if the battery is weak and it cranks over real slow then that could contribute. it's doubtful its the coils if you're getting spark. You should test all the wires to make sure you get spark at them.

Check the compression too. How does the car run once it's started? Could be a leaky fuel injector too. An ignition amp will help with these kinds of issues, but will not solve the problem directly. Also if you're running the stock plugs you might try switching to some NGK b9EGV's they do require a special thin wall socket. (or put a regular one on a lathe). Switching to these plugs helped when I had a flooding issue. There are also some greddy plugs that run about $30-50 a piece but are supposed to last 15 times longer while making the car run much better. I just ordered some myself, so we'll see

i checked compression but it seemed a lil high 130-150psi...but i also checked the forums and i read that i should open the TB when i check it, is that right? I saw the needle jump 3 times, as there are 3 apex seals per rotor...just to give a lil more info on this subject.

Dudemaaanownsanrx7 - when the car did start it ran a bit rough at first with some smoke but then was fine after a few minutes...and let me know how those plugs work for you.

Sounds like you used a piston compression tester. Did you hold the pressure release button down or remove the valve core so it would release pressure between compression "strokes" for lack of a better term?

You're supposed to keep the pressure released during cranking and take note of how far each bounce is. Otherwise it just builds to the maximum pressure without showing each individually.

I'm pretty sure its the fuel injectors now but not all of them...just to one of the housings cuz like i said it sounds like it wants to start but wont turn over completly. I pulled the EGI fuse just to see if i could try to burn off any excess fuel but only heard the spark and then replaced the fuse and same as before... So im going with the fuel injectors as the cause of my sleepless nights. If anyone has another opinion then im all ears. thanks for all the feedback so far

if you did all this testing and turning the motor over constantly with the EGI and fuel relay in your motor is most likely flooded.

So I deflooded it again and then it started on the third crank..but now I have a coolant leak (or always did) cuz large amounts of white smoke is flowing out my exaust and there is some steam coming from the right side (left side if looking down at the engine) where the air hoses are but can't find the source. :-/ kinda sucks

Does the smoke stop after a bit? Most FD's smoke some at every start up. It will take a few moments to get all that fuel cleared out of the exhaust after it started, and it is also a bit of condensation. Swing it by your local shop and just see if he can go over it with you. If nothing else you can get acquainted with the closest shop to you. Good Luck!

I park my car in an underground parking garage for my place and so I can really let my fd smoke out the garage LOL I'd love to since I live around some irritating people. So I had it towed to Forged Performance just to be safe.
