Speedo wont go past ~20mph

95 base with realibilty mods, with just a few issues.

Last week my speedometer started acting flakey, and now it will rarely go above ~20-25 mph.

I will start accelerating and it indicates normally until 20-25mph then it just stops and drops instantly to zero??!?

Other times it will "wake up" and indicate the correct speed but this seems to only happen about 25% of the time now.

My speed sensor wacked out? ECU? Instrument Cluster?

Thanks for the help.

There's no easy answer. Do a search.

Sounds to me like a broken solder joint in the gauge cluster, honestly.

Other people had this happen with their tachnometers.

But still check your speed sensor.

it's because your car knows you are an auto trans HATER! hahaha j/k I have heard that there is a fuse that you can pull to take bogus pics of your speedo above 180...get past the top half of the speedo, pull the fuse, and the needle just falls to the other side and indicates 180. Could be that this fuse is your problem. It was listed in a top speed thread a while back. Try a search...

If you would stop constantly driving around accelerating to 25 and slamming on the brakes it would stop for sure.

Ah Weaklink... You got an elepant memory

And "HATER" is such a harsh term, I perfer "closet auto hater".....

Besides aren't you in the process, or at least thinking about a manual swap? Thanks for the search link I'll check it out.

Shawnk: Your comedic input is both witty and charming, but alas, I still search for truth behind my problem.

thought a little humor would help the wait for someone more knowledgable than me.

(and my imagination was running away with a helicopter view of a gorgeous FD accelerating to 25 then slamming on the brakes repeatedly through a neighborhood - maybe ending with the driver hopping out of the car, veins popping out of his neck in anger, as the helicopter lands next to the car and you can just hear the driver over the blade noise yell "For the love of god what is wrong with this damn speedometer!!!")

I was having a few problems with my guages acting weird ever since I got my car and when I took out my entire dash to anti-rust my dash subframe everything started working perfectly. I didnt do anything in particular so was thinking that maybe the connectors were just loose. Have you pulled it and made sure the connector is sitting tight?

Man I am bored...why cant their be anything at all going on - I can only watch the speed channel for so long..

Shawn

lol, no worries I like smart *** answers.... I'm famous for that when my family memebers call me for PC support, Its really funny (hmmm still not working? Try loging out and then log back in...etc.etc..)

I dont think it any of the connectors or a bad solder joint, cuz its so reproduceable. I guess its either gotta be the speedo itself, the speed sensor, or the ECU.

If you're stumped, PM me, I took appart my '93 cluster a couple of weeks ago, and replaced the speedo, and left the Odometer so that the milage wouldn't be off....
I ran into all kinds of weird issues with the speedo...

any updates? Yeah I'm still considering the manual swap, but I have to blow up this tranny first. Looks promising if I can ever get my 3 bar map sensor from apex!
