Smoking under the FD hood!

Its 4 degrees celcius (39.2 degrees fahrenheit) and raining here. I had warmed up the car this morning for about 6 minutes before drving. I thought I smelt something like it was burning so I popped the hood to see and there was smoke coming from the front driver side. It appears to be coming from under the driver side head light. The only thing I can see under there is the oil or tranny cooler not sure where its coming from???

Hows your oil level? check the lines that go from the motor to the cooler make sure theres nothing leaking.

It smells like oil. For some reason its now gone. I dont see any signs of oil drips anywhere near the front of the car. Could this be something to do with rain?

I'll bet you were having water off the pavement splashing against parts of the engine bay. Since the rain collects oil off the road, maybe that's where the oily smell was coming from.

I don't know. Occom's Razor: The answer shouldn't be more complicated than the problem.

it could be from oil dripping off the engine on to your exhaust. After a ride on the highway i can see smoke coming off my catalytic converter. It kind of sucks since some of the smoke comes up through the ebrake boot and smells up the car
