Unhappy Slow spool- Pre cat clogged??

hey all,

Im having problems that just started today when i felt alot of my low end torque missing. while watching my boost guage i noticed im only getting about 9 psi and i dont hit full boost untill around 3,600-3,800. I checked for leaks and couldnt find any. Im pulling about 17 lbs of vaccum at idle. and the engine idles smoooooooth. I occasionaly smell an rotten egg type smell but thats not all the time. I just changed my plugs tonight and that didnt remedy the problem i have new 8.5mm magnacores... Im still running the stock DP although i have an RB DP sitting right next to me, i plan on installing it this weekend. Im just wondering if the precat might be getting clogged up and thats causing my slow spool/ low end torque loss/low boost. Also, my boost pattern is 9-5-9 when the secondary comes on i use to get a nice kick.. now its very mild since boost is slow to build. My mods are RB CB/dual tip and apexi intakes. any ideas?

you have to change that stock precat ASAP!!! thats very bad for the car and you will notice that your turbo's spool up way better. also, that is one of the mods that should be done first to the car.....

hope this helps, Roman

i plan on it. But spool was good up untill a few days ago. The car has 64k on it. would a pre cat go south without warning?

It's a pretty gradual process. But don't worry about it especially if you're going to replace it with a DP. If the problem persists, then you know it wasn't your pre-cat.

You might want to double check all the vacuum hoses. One may have disconnected.

this also could be your main cat. Most likely precat though.

That's a 7 for you! but you should check those v hoses. When I was replacing some of mine I couldn't believe how easily they came, fell off.

So did your problem go away once you changed out the precat with a downpipe? Because all of a sudden I also have the same problem.Cant hit any higher than 9 psi, missing low end torque, slower than suall spool up.
Let me know if changine to a downpipe solved the problem and if it didnt let me know if you found the answer to the problem.

My main cat was clogged recently and was taking so much power away from my car. I put a midpipe on and its running WAY better than before.
