Single oil cooler options?

Is there a worthwhile replacement for the base/touring single oil cooler? I know duals are the better way to go. I only do autocross and normal street driving. I am just trying to improve over the stock single. Just looking for something that will fit behind the stock bumper and might be fairly simple, maybe thicker core.

Is there anything I should consider? I would love to have the money or need for a nice SB Garage dual setup but I am not looking to spend that much and I don't really think I need that much cooling. I generally don't drive much in the hot TX summer months.

Thanks for any advice.

The easiest more cost effective approach is to get a stock dual setup. It will basically be plug and play. RotaryExtreme sells single and dual oil cooler kits:

You are looking at $900 for their 25-row single kit. It is possible to make your own kit for less, but what you save in money you will pay for in effort.

I havnt done it yet
but here is something howard started
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/dual-oil-coolers-cheap-633480/

the BEST choice for your use is probably a single large aftermarket, but like mahjik said you are looking at 900$
SB does make good stuff but he does charge a small premium and you dont need duals for autox, in my opinion

$900 is certainly more than I expected. I can see why people are so quick to jump on the r1 kits that come up. I had considered the Howard Coleman setup but I was trying to keep it simple and just have the one single.

I replaced my single oil cooler with a single 19-row Mocal oil cooler. I documented what was used here:

I don't necessarily recommend going at it on your own unless you have the time and patience to get the mounting correct.

I say roll your own if you go dual oil coolers.
Skip the SS hose and use some good high pressure hose with push on connectors.
It is much easier to route the hoses where you like when you can cut the hoses to length rather than using precut.

Mahjik, thanks for posting that link. I will read through it and may follow your footsteps. Having just one appeals to me. It's not a track machine and I do have a koyo n-flow helping out on the cooling. If I found a nice set of R1 duals, those would make sense but I can't watch the for sale section all day like many forum members and they always go before I can get on it. I don't really want to have to get a set of duals or my own reconditioned. I feel like by the time I do all that to either do a Coleman dual setup or fix up a set of R1s I would be close to the cost of a good single. I should have jumped on the SB duals that sold a few months back for $500. Somebody got a deal there.

For what it's worth I have both a touring single oil cooler for sale from my previous FD and the r1 coolers for sale shortly. Just trying to help.

My build thread has a part list for adding the Oem R1 pasenger cooler with complete AN lines and fittings. Pics as well.

Also, if you want to purchase a part specifically, post a WTB thread. It is very effective.

I will check out your build thread and weigh my options. Having a new cooler appeals to me but if I can find some decent R1s or do the howard coleman dual setup for less than I'll probably go that route.

The OEM coolers are excellent for street/autocross driving. They have an internal thermostat as opposed to setting up an aftermarket piece. Mounting is OEM and easy to do. I picked up a single passenger cooler for $70 after posting a WTB thread. No fabricating brackets or ducting, and no bumper fitement worries. I incorporated the AN lines to eliminate the use of the old setup.

Overall, I couldnt be happier with it. Pm if you have further questions.

dont bother waiting for R1 duals
i had some before and sold them, and they can get expensive
I think I sold them for 600ish with all piping so you are not exactly saving much
and you will need a giant box since the piping is not bendable
so its better to go with aftermarket hoses, but you can use a mazda cooler is fine
