rx7 type r

high guys, this is my first post and am just wanting a bit of backgroung information.
dont have an rx7 at the moment but am hoping to get one as my next car in year or two and am just doing a bit of backgroud searching.
what year did the jap spec type r get 280bhp instead of 250/265bhp?also does anyone have any performance stats for the 280 bhp model?have seen a few 0-60 times and top speeds but want something more comprehensive including 0-100mph times and quarter mile times.
hoping to start modifying the car after a few months of ownership and am looking for about 400bhp,what sort of top speed,0-100,0-60 and quarter mile times will be possible with 400bhp and will the car still be reliable?

nice comprehensive forum you have here lads, you should be proud!!

regards beast(uk)

Since you mentioned "Type R", I'm assuming that you meant the "Spirit R".

There was a Type R model from 92-93 and a Type RII from 94-95. I believe these closely resembled the R1 and R2 in USDM markets. In 96 they released the Type RS.

There was actually a really crazy model release in AU/NZ-only that you'll rarely see, if ever.

The RX-7 Type SP1 and SP2.

Factory modified with carbon-fiber parts, larger intercooler, race seats, etc.

didnt mean the spirit r as i wouldnt really want to spend all that extra money when im gonna tune the engine and change some bodywork anyway!
wanted the 280bhp model as a starting point as its the fastest model and i will have the car about 6 months before i start modding!
so,if i get a 1997 model it will be 255 or 265bhp then?
i thought all rx7's were 2 seaters but have read on some sites that there are alot of 4 seaters,so which mdels are 2 seaters and which are 4?and also, what is the structural difference,is a 2 seater the same as a 4 seater minus seats and belts ect?
still cant find any performance figures for the 255/265/280 bhp models!!

I've got a 92 Type-R (Jspec) 2+2, although the rear seats are pretty useless (unless you have small kids or hang around with amputees). As for structural differences, would imagine it's only seatbelt mounts....haven't has chance to compare it to a true 2-seater.

I'm thinking about removing my rear seats, I need somewhere to put my battery and charge-cooler reservoir. I'm also fitting Cobra Imola buckets which'll pretty much make the rear seats inaccessible anyway. Only problem is all the associated trim that goes with the seats, would look a bit messy if you just tugged the seats out and left the side panels etc. just hanging there. My advice would be to try and find one without the rear seats, although that might be easier said than done considering how rare RX7's are over here. Whereabouts in the UK are you anyways?

Okay so is there any real way to identify one type from the other type r's, spirit r's, ect.. I heard somewhere along the line a type r comes stock with crossdrilled rotors and red brakes or something like that.

This is the Mazdaspeed R-spec kit, not quite type-R.

I love this body kit, when I have the money, this is going to be mine.
