Rev Gauge - Problems??

Of recent the stock rev gauge will occasionally drop to zero while the engine continues to run. It appears to happen when I change gears as the revs drop back to idle (roughly 800rpm) the needle drops to zero and then quickly recovers back to the correct rpm. The engine doesn’t stumble or do anything out of the usual so I can only assume the ECU continues to see the right rpm but the gauge does not. Has anyone had a similar problem? Does the input to the gauge come from the coils or ECU?

Its a known problem with FDs. It sucks. Sometimes on the track I get WRONG RPM reading, so I need to rely on the speed to calculate the revs in my mind
