Rebuilding motor

I bought an FD this week with a t78 turbo set up, but the engine is messed up. The secondary rotor was all scraped up as well as the housing. owner before me had no clue what he had as he bough it from another guy. History tell me that he didnot know what he had. Also he said that when he bought it ..the previous owner ran it at 7 psi and he turned it up to 17 psi for a trip down the drag strip. I now own this car and want to make sure everything is done right.

Motor work....unknown "needs rebuild"
T-78 greddy kit
greddy Boost controller
greddy turbo timer
Defi gauges
injectors unknown
Fuel pump unknown
Tune unknown
fluidline rad with dual fans

My plan is to send the engine to PFsupercars and have the engine rebuild. My question is...............

What are the advantages of getting a streetport with this set up? or should I just stick with a stock rebuild. I plan on tunning this car with a PFC+commander and doing things the right way.

My plan is to have a nice track car right around 400-500hp. Sorry for the newb post, but we all started somewhere.

Can you even come close to those figures without porting it? I have streetported mine and I'm happy with the result. My car is a monster now, I love it! Go with porting!

if they turned it up to 17psi thats what happened to the motor. without upgrading other stuff.

you will need to upgrade the fuel system.
800 primary 1600 secondaries, fuel rails, fuel pump upgrade or dual fuel pumps,
standalone computer or piggy back, meth for extra prevention.

if all you wont is 400hp you should be able to get that out of a streetport and 10psi on that turbo.

good luck and i hope you got some money$$$$$

I'm sure you can reach that without porting it out. I'm thinking of just doing a stock rebuild and get the pfc. My budget is pretty much set and I dont waant to go over that. Adding the injectors, stock port, and pfc should yield me waht i want. I'm i right.

then again you have a delima...1600 cc injectors wont fit in the stock rails so you would have to get the secondary fuel rail to go with those injectors, with injector grommets sold separate.$$$
and fuel pressure regulator if you dont already have one.
another must is an upgraded fuel pump. the stock pump is already at its limits with that turbo.
but the thing with porting is... like cheap horsepower all you got to do is open the hole up so it can take more in and out. plus if your getting it cracked open, whats 450 more dollars for 35 to 40 more horse!!

BINGO. +1. If you already got it open then you might as well do everything you can, or else down the road you might regret it and think why you never got your engine ported..just my .2

Where is that $450 qoute from? I called pfsupercars today and i was qouted $2900 for a stock rebuild and $3900 for a streetport. I'll call back tomorrow and confirm everything.

Here's a few pic's of the parts i have. I will take the fuel pump out and see if it has been upgraded.

t78

Injectors????

Anyone know what size these are

I have a lot of work ahead

PFsupercars is 2 hours away from my house. I'll call tomorrow and see what they can do.

well , you do have an aftermarket secondary rail. 1600's won't be a problem.

You're just putting your motor at risk again without porting it. At least run alcohol injection then if you aren't porting it.

Sorry bro I was just saying that while you have everything open and all you might as well take advantage of it. I really dont know what kind of prices they would charge, but 1k for a street port over a stock port seems a little steep. Then again I really don't know it would just be my guess. Goodluck with everything I hope it works out for you man.

I paid $2k for rebuild, streetporting + replacement crankshaft.

Bought 1 new rotor and rotorhousing from Mazdatrix + Gasket kit, which cost more than the rebuild, porting and crankshaft.

(And this is in Norway, where everything is way more expensive than in the USA)

Just did ........as well as another member. I have been reading all the FAQ you guys have on here and I'm learning a lot. I'm not new to turbo charged motors at all, but very green with the rotary engine. Everyone on here has helped me a great deal and i'm learning a lot about how these engines work. I was born in puerto rico and loved goin to the track and watching rotary cars go down the track screaming. I finally have a change in doing the same. I appreciate everyones input and I will keep searching and reading all the good info this site has. I know what things cost when doing this rebuild, but some people try to make over on those of us trying to get in the rotary game. If I must pay to play...........I wanna play

Those are already 1600cc injectors. You are going to want to remove the turbine housing of the turbo and look for apex seal damage. There is only one place for the seals to go and that is through the hotside of the turbo.

The car has all these mods and no type of engine management?

I have yet to look at the ECU. Maybe the previous owner had a PFC and sold the controller and keeped the ecu. Dunno......Today I will investigate some more. Also How can you tell those are 1600cc inj. Where is a good place to get them tested?

Thanks for the tip on checking the turbo. I will take it apart and inspected. I also want the housing, manifold, and DP to get heat coated.

My first mod RX8 **** ***

I talked to my builder today and he gave me a great qoute. This engine will see a large streetport. Goal will be 400-450hp on 93 and 450-550 on race gas. I'm super happy with the guy that is going to build my engine. I'm taking it down to him tomorrow and it should be done in less than 3 weeks.

I was looking for the ECU and I found this

Yes ....I was goin to order one tomorrow. more money in the bank..........I still can find the controller. I'll just have to order that.
