Rebuild first crank
We're trying to start a rebuild and it cranks but does not start up. We checked the fuel lines and they are correct and so are the plugs and wires. The motor turns over fast so the battery is good. What else could cause the car not to run?

Double-check everything - it's usually some tiny, simple thing that you'll kill yourself finding . Unplugged MAP sensor, disconnected ECU ground, fuel injector that's not totally plugged in, etc.
Pull the plugs and see if you smell fuel on them - that will help determine if fuel is getting in the motor.
Take your time and double-check everything.

I've been working on mine all day today. I got it flooded and it sounds like yours is the same. I removed the plugs and the fuel pump relay. Hooked up a booster to the battery and cranked it about 10 good times. I cleaned the plugs and put them back in. Crancked it without the fuel pump replay about three times. Then put the relay in and crancked her several times. It kept "almost" firing but just not enough. I think it was about the tenth try it fired up. I had to keep the idle at about 3k to keep it alive. My temps stayed at 84c for a while and untill air bubbles I suppose. I tried to burp the system and cranked the heater on when she hit 94c. She stayed there for a little while and then dropped back down to 84c.

Yeah, we just took out all the plugs, cleaned them and crank the motor a few times to clear out any excess gas. After putting the plugs back in we crank it and it started kinda but stmbled and died after about 2-3 seconds. It did this about 3 times. So basically its starts half-*** and dies. What else may be wrong. Going to try and clean the plugs and do it all over. Any other suggestions?

If it starts again try to keep some revs until it clears up. I know mine runs like **** until it gets some heat in it, but it has always started right up ever since I found that ignitor problem.

Yeah it started 1/2 *** a few times. when it started to catch, I floored the pedal to keep it alive and after about a minute it cought on by itself. I think it took a total of 1/2 hour to burn off all the assembly lube and have it start normally. Probably a total of 30 cranks. I couldn't leave it on the full 1/2 hour like the video said cause their was air in the system.

this could be the source of your problem

BB Are you using the stock ecu? Did you do any porting to the engine or replace housings what seals are you using? Sometimes it takes a little while for new seals to wear right into used housings. If you have a pfc or other computer I'd say the settings may be off but if you are on the stock ecu next time you get it to start up hold the gas down so it doesn't die and let it run until it will run on it's own. If it doesn't then I'd say it's a fuel problem with too much fuel. My car took about 3 minutes of holding down the throttle for it to run on it's own the first time after the rebuild. Before that I had the settings slightly off for my new injectors and it wouldn't start. Also of course putting new plugs in there is better than cleaned plugs.
Good luck

i remember seeing pics of her build up, she used what appeared to be axle grease where most people use vaseline and assembly lube
i wouldn't think this to be good for the plugs/combustion

The car runs fine now. After we unflooded it cranked right up the first time. It runs perfect now. Thanks for the input and special thanks to Black93FDouche for blowing it up in the first place.

I found another culprit. since I just cranked my new block at the same time i'd thought i'd add to the post. ANyhow, I bought new Magnacores and ND plugs. Well the stupid F'n plugs can suck my nuts! Since they don't have the slits like the NGK's do they would fill with gas and the plugs would have a puddle and get flooded. I bought some NGK's at Racing Beat (counter guy was an idiot) got the reg platiunums. After I explained why I wanted hotter plugs then he said he didnt have any. ...why the F' did he freekin ask then? Then he tells me oh the Iridiums are onlly a few cents more and the platinums were replaced with iridiums. Buzzz, moron those are for the RX8 and their $30ea. ok, so my point was it cranked on the first try with the NGK's Stupid Denso plugs!
