1280s Hot Start 3 Rotor 20b RX7

Well, been playing with a hot-start issue for quite a while now. Would like to see if anyone else has this issue?

SETUP:

-Brand New Hi-Output RX8 internals Starter
-0 Gauge wiring, 1000A Battery
-Rebuilt Engine, 3 Rotor Good Compression
-Top Feed 850/1680CC injectors

Symptoms:

1. Car starts immediately when cold. Run the car for even 10-15 mins at idle in driveway, up to full water temp / oil temp, turn it off. Restarts immediately again! You can even shut it back on/off/on/off no issues!

BUT

2. Drive the car/heatsoak the UIM/LIM, IE after doing full boost pulls or long driving in traffic. Shut it down and restart it within 5 secs and it will fire-off. IF you wait longer than 1 mins after shutdown and try to restart, no go. Crank crank crank crank crank. Wait 10-15mins till UIM is a little cooler and fires off immediately!

If the UIM is heatsoaked the car literally has to be held on the starter for 30 seconds to fire-up

I have an electronic water pump, and I can even bring the temps of the coolant down w/ fans to 140F. Still doesn't matter. If the car is heatsoaked it will no restart unless you're on the starter for eternity.

During this hot start period, I try fuel-pump off and/or cycling fuel cut w/ gas pedal down / up. Ill see the AFR gauge go full lean to full rich.

It just floods floods floods.

Now the strange part. IF YOU GET IT TO RESTART, it will shutdown and restart again easily within 5 seconds.

Any ideas? Should I be adjusting cranking fuel against IAT? Should I be pulling out fuel significantly? It smells like a fuel soaked dump-truck when it fires up after 30 sec cranking.

do you have ignition timing or fuel trim based on IAT? my issue was running too lean at high IAT with heatsoak. I took off my IAT compensation, and I haven't had issues.

if you're smelling lot of fuel, maybe you're retarding ignition timing too much at high IAT? what are your sensor readings when this happens and what are the trims at those sensor readings? I approached all my hesitations this way, and was able to solve everything. It's always either spark or fuel.

Hi Monsterbox,

Have you used Sekuku's built-in scope before? If you haven't, then these videos might help.

Can you send us a picture using the built-in scope during the no-start cranking?

Please set:

Channel 1 = CAS1 ADC (1/div)
Channel 2 = CAS 2 ADC (1/div)
Channel 3 = current engine angle (no scaling)
Channel 4 = Processed trigger inputs

Timebase = 100ms/div

Trigger doesn’t matter so much, just do force trigger if you like and hit “stop” once you have a screenful of data, print-screen that and email it to us at tech@adaptronic.com.au (attention Mark)

Thank you.
Mark

That user interface looks nightmarish... but what do I know. I'm just an end user.

Thanks, I will try early next week to drive the car to heatsoak and get a screen shot.

Stickman, there are no IAT adjustments for cranking on fuel or spark. Its the same settings for cold start as hot start. The only adjustments are for coolant temp, and that's only for driving.
