Rear Hatch Strut(s)

I recently installed a JDM rear spoiler and due to the extra weight my hatch doesn’t stay up.

I noticed that Mazda offer two different pairs of strut(s) for a replacement. One, to be installed without rear wipers, one, to be installed with rear wipers.

Just wanted to know, if the Struts that’s to be installed with rear wipers are stronger (due to the extra weight).

if anyone has knowledge please advise.
Thank you,

Andre

I have 99 spec spoiler put on my car and the car had back windshield wippers and it holds very good. I dont know if there is a big difference in between the two. That is a good question though.

DaiOni way back when, had a bit info about hatch struts, if you want to search - pretty sure there were more than 2 options too, at least for RHD cars.

Maybe your struts are just old and either replacement would work better just because they would be new...

And who is quoting you those prices??

Amayama sells OEM struts for $83 each and rockauto has some non OEM brands for like $12...And I'm sure if you checked McMaster Carr you would find an adequate replacement

“Amayama sells OEM struts for $83 each...”
Thanks for the info. Do you have a contact number to where I can purchase them?

Just google Amayama, they are a huge Japanese car parts distributor, they are not based in the US but they do ship to the US. I used their service many times.

It's mind blowing this isn't a 3 minute job like most vehicles. I don't know what the hell they were thinking.

I recomend getting the touring struts (or whatever comes with the wing/wiper). Had the same problem and the touring struts will hold up a 99-spec wing. See post 149 for part no.s

https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=149

And for aftermarket, if you can't afford OEM, you shouldn't own an FD

i had the same situation and found out the FDs came with at least 3 different kind of struts, one of which is for 99 spec wings.
