Really need help, doing my head in :(

Help would be VERY appreciated! This is the problem...

I own a highly strung fd rx7, 700hp at the rears so already things are different.

Basically my retard mechanic put a new gearbox in, and somewhere along the line short started it and ran it out of gas... he also flooded it a few times I went to pick it up and after putting in new fuel, it started but wouldnt idle, clutch in or neutral would kill it in about 3 seconds. i managed to drive it home. the next day i started it up no worries, but still wouldnt idle. it ended up spluttering and died after 2 mins.

Now it wont start at all, its had a rebuild 1300kms ago so very new engine, spark plugs should be good so whats going on?

Cheers Guys

That being said...

This isn't enough info to diagnose the problem. You should spend some time checking basic things and post the results so people aren't having to start at step 1 with helping you.

What ECU do you have? Have you checked the fuel system - is there normal pressure at idle? If not, have you checked voltage to the pump? When was the fuel filter changed, or fuel sock (if you still have an in-tank pump). Have you tested to make sure each coil pack is firing - is each plug actually sparking? Do you have an ignition amplifier (e.g. HKS Twin Power) and if so is it functioning (in case of the Twin Power check for red LED).

There are a lot of basic things you should know how to check if you own a 700hp Rx-7, or any power-level Rx-7 really.

Also, you need to be a lot more descriptive in your thread post. Telling us that the car was run out of fuel and then flooded isn't enough to properly diagnose any problem.

You could always start with a compression test. :\

Cheers, yeah ive done most of the basic checks, was hoping that this might be a common problem and maybe an easy fix. Havent checked compression as its a new engine and surely running out of gas wont break the seals? Thanks anyway

at 700 hp it will be hard to say. Compression test would be a good first step.

Ok, so got it back from speedtech, they sandblasted the plugs and its going, only just tho. idles at around 800-900rpm which is way too low. didnt compression test but it shouldnt need one done. this thread is sorted so i'll look at other posts and see if i can find any info. otherwise i'll start a new one. cheers

Sandblasting plugs might work fine on a street car, but a 700hp car? I would think NEW plugs would be the only way to go...

no offense but a compression test takes no more than 10 minutes. if that's too much then you are in denial and shouldn't keep a high strung rotary.

if it comes back ok then look for vacuum leaks after the throttle body, ie blown off vacuum lines. the mechanic probably went for a joyride.

could it be your clutch switch? perhaps your clutch is slightly engaged causing it to stall.

this should not matter if your car is in neutral....

was the car running properly before you brought it to the shop? and then from the time you picked it up had these problems? if so i would go back to the shop and tell them to figure it out. obviously if this is the case, they fucked something up.
