John,

We met for the first time at Kohls early this year. I have been driving 7's for about 15 years and your "Efini" was the nicest i had ever seen .... Done but not overdone. I remember my Misty Blue FB was parked next to yours at Kohls and everyone said the same thing (WOW, amazing , incredible , i want it) That was the way i had felt too.

To see your car expire in such a way is a crime. I for one would volenteer my help in any way possible. I am in the automobile business (almost 15 years) I do have some contacts. If and when you decide that you would like to persue another FD please get in touch with me.

Again I am truly sorry for your loss and I as well as other "TRUE ROTORHEADS" can feel your pain and loss.

Jason

I am late in reading this thread, but I got misty-eyed just thinking about this. A couple years ago I had a fire too. Like you I had one good warning before hell broke loose. I smelled fuel while driving on the freeway and pulled over then pour water over the top of the engine to see if fuel would drain down along with the water. It did. I still drove the car home and proceeded to change the FPD(as quickly as possible). I neglected to clean ALL the fuel hidden on the block and... in the Jack-in-the-Box drive thru... flameon!
Thankfully, there wasnt much fuel or oil to keep the fire going and it went out on its own before the fire dept got there.
I have new primary injectors, ACV, engine harness, vacuum hoses and a salvage title. I still have my car though, and it gives me a smile every day.
This is another must-read for newbies w/threads like: "..WTF?...I smell fuel.." After my path crossing with fire I will not hesitate to park my car and rip into the UIM, ratsnest , whatever at a moments notice and replace ANYTHING that I dont think is up to par.
And keep in mind everyone else who this has not happened to: this has very little to do with luck. I've let my deteriorating rear bushings rattle me into near spinal injury just to put the money into reliability in the fuel area. I've dumped my leaky PS and warm AC and cut out all lines underhood to help with airflow (and weight) around the motor. Overkill? Yes. But this experience made me obsessive. Once it happens there's no going back.
I hope you get back in your own FD one day.
We should all burn some rubber in memory of our brother's fallen steed.

Thank you guys for the great words of confort, folowing and keeping this tread alive, it means alot to me.

Special Thanks goes to Dwayne aka RX7UP for raising money for me in this forum, even though I begged him not to, I feel embarrased of such thing, knowing how hard is to own and maintain an RX-7, therefore that makes me even more embarrased to take any money from you, but for Dwayne is out of question not to help and be there whenever needed, not just now!

For now I'm going to get a POS dayle, just to take me from A-B, and God willing after a while I will for sure buy another FD...

Thanks ya'll.

Riding a bike for now, only 3 times a week though, just to my part time job and back, it's about a mile or so each direction, it's kinda cold but I have no choice, , by next week I should be picking up a 91 Renegade to beat around with, I got a great deal on, impossible to refuse so I'll be rolling on a hillbilly mobile for a while .

Its not as easy as it sounds. A few years ago I was hit in the van with a CAT Backhoe Loader with his bucket up- blocking his view. turned right into the street and totalled the car. Lucky I wasnt dead. I still have a fat lip and we are still trying to get 10k for the surgery and pain and suffering... They did cover the cost of a replacement van though. Carl

that's terrible news... especially with the timing of cancelling your insurance... at least if you had that, you could use the money to buy another one...

at least you're fine, and it happened where you knew about it... It would have really sucked if it happened in your garage (assuming you have one) and you were far enough away not to have heard it... or even if you did, to still not have a good fire ext. and have your whole house go up in flames... even worse, if your family was in the house, too...

Perhaps with that in mind, it helps you feel better...

Hey John.

I read about this a few weeks ago, and I really didn't know what to say. My jaw kind of hit the floor, as did my girlfriend's, and any friends I had brought to Kohl's while your car was there.

We all said the same exact thing. "You're joking! How?! Why? That was the most beautiful car I'd ever seen!" etc, etc.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your car, man. I know how much you put into her. She grew to be a part of you, and anyone who saw your car knew that, immediately. Always CLEAN as a whistle, running tip-top, never seeing poor weather. Not to mention beating on Ferrari's every now and again.

If you ever feel the need to get some rotary taste, you can always climb in my FC and take her for a spin. I know it won't be the same as a heavily boosted FD, but the offer's there.

Take care bro, I'm sure you'll be back.
James

John, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. This is the first I've heard of it. Hopefully you can find another one for a good price and get started again. I'm just sad I never got to see it. Good luck.

EDIT: I just read the whole story, and I was thinking you should sue the F.E. company and then you said it. I think you should still do it. Fate or not, THEIR fire extinguisher was faulty and caused you to lose your car and almost your life, they need to feel the pain you feel. Maybe this all happened so you could get enough money to get a new car and pay off any bills you may have and buy some stuff you always wanted, or save or whatever.

Man John I'm so sorry for your loss... I know it as 2 months ago now, but I took a fiesta away from the rx7 boards once I got into a Nissan fix last year... Man that's horrible. It brought tears to my eyes just seeing the pictures. I'm sending a donation your way. It's not much, hell it's only 10 bucks, but damnit man I can't just stand by and do nothing while a true sports car enthusiast, drives a P.O.S. Renegade because his beauty passed away on him... My condolences, and my prayers are with you, and the dream that you will be re-united with another 7 soon.

Will
