I'm ok as far as being hurt, I did suffer some minor hand and arm burns, although that's the least of my pain right now.
Mr rx-7 tt
The new fuel lines were of high pressure FI type from summit racing, each one had double clamps on each end.
amp
It was around 2pm, more and less, I was on NB I-95 by GunHill Rd Exit near Co-op City.
Emerald99
The f. ext. was a Kiddie, the 15 bux one that home depot sells, if that **** worked as it should, the car would have been saved for sure, the fire was quiet small when I opened the hood.
areXseven
It's hard to know for sure but my guess goes to fuel line either comming of or bursting, cousing a quiet loud pop under the hood folowed by instant fire and alotta black smoke, at the same time the motor shut down, and btw completely lost brakes, exept for e-brake which helped me slow down and stop safely.

I hope non of you ever experience such scenario, it's very painfull, I'm crushed, seeing it burn right before my eyes and you can't do nothing to prevent it.
Sorry for your loss...

I have 4 Kiddie's. One in each car and one in the kitchen. Although they all indicate 'good,' I think I will go fire them all off and see if any fail. If any do, I will look for a new brand. Hopefully, your loss has given the rest of us a heads up.

FYI (all members),

I called the fire department (FD). They gave the following advice.

1) The 5 lb. I have in my kitchen is old, but it should still be good if the presure indicator is in the green and there are not signs of corrosion. However, they did say that if it is refillable, might as well take it to be serviced and checked. Also, since it has been in the house for a long time, the chemicals may have settled and caked into the bottom of the extinguisher. So, in addition to shaking it up every once in a while, if I have a rubber mallet, it might be a good idea to turn it over and tap the bottom every once in a while to release any caked chemicals.

2) The 1 lbs I have in the cars should be shaken occasionally. I know this, but over time, I stopped doing it. It just slips the mind. The FD also recommended; in addition to the 1 lb I keep in the cabin, I should get a 5 lb secured into the trunk.

John -AKA- TwinTurbo93 -AKA- My Brazha!

GOD!...... May the Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on you and your soul.... I have so many great memories of us hanging out with the sevens.... All inside my head.... I just don't know where to begin or what to say about this traggic loss of ours..... You see this loss was not just yours it was mine too....

It was like yesterday when we first met, It was her.... It was all her fault..... One day I was coming home from work and there she was,,, Shiney, Sexy, Curvaceous, Black, Seductive, Beast of a car, Radiating, and Reflecting the full moons brilliance all alone parked on E209th street... Right then and there I was reminded how much I desired to own one... That was my renewed inspiration and my very first memory of your FD....

John: I can say we have rolled to alot of places together with the FDs and I am a witness to the love, time and energy you have given the love of your life. Your soul mate! Your FD!... I must give you my sincere condolences... I know you loved her more than a person and I know you felt like jumping in the fire and dying along with her... Now you must be strong and avenge her death with a new one, so you can move on....

A moment of silence.....

One of many memories:

I can remember one spring day we went to the Westchester mall with our wives in our FDs... Later that day while having lunch at the diner we watched through the window at our FDs in the parking lot and laughing and feeling proud of people stopping to admire our cars... After we ate, we cruised through the town and drifted through that one sharp corner whipping out the rear going side ways..... That was fun!

Then it was off to the near by parkway.... Here just before we got on, we both knew we were gonna get yelled at and scare the living **** out of our wives....lol. We knew this is where it was gonna go down.... This is where we were gonna push our FDs to there limits and see how loud our wives would scream beside us in the passenger seat!....

For all those who don't know the Bronx Parkway between Whiteplains and Bronxville, It is the parkway of supercar heaven.... This is where Ferrari, Lambos, Porches and other exotic owners come to test there skill and push there cars to the limits... This narrow two lane ride of pure extacy is the ultimate rush... It has the greatest corners and dipps along with the best vistas of plant life and waterfalls... It's a dream!

Here I had one of my favorite memories of your car... Probably the only time with only one other exception where I beat you in a race....lol... Cornering through the curvaceous black top of the parkway pushing our selves and our cars to the limits raging fowards through traffic like an obstacle corse.... We ate it up!!!! I could only imagine from a stand still what that must of looked like... Two FDs Raging through a parkway passing each other through corners on a narrow two lane parkway on a spring afternoon.... That memory will never fade!....

That is only one of my many fond memories of your FD.... May she rest in peace.....

Our cars were like best of friends.... In loving memory of TwinTurbo93s BB FD Touring.

om man my condolences....

trust me I feel YOUR pain. MY first FD went R.I.P. due to an engine fire. Reading this thread physically makes me sick. As it brings back bad memories and current fears.

Holy **** man, that is such a sad stroy thats worse than a kid getting his hand ripped off in an industrail drier. Can't you sue the fire extinguisher company or home depot for selling you a dud of an extinguisher? SUE SUE SUE....usualluy I'm not one to say something like sue becasue i hate america and the way it sues anyone anytime it can to make some me cash, but this is totally legit, if the extinguisher had worked things would be fine would they not?

Man I know how you are feeling right now. I also lost my baby a few weeks ago. Atleast I had insurance cover most of it, not like in your case. Good luck with everything.

My Condolences

John,

My heart goes out to you for this.. It's a nightmare come true.

But reading through this thread something kept popping into my mind.

You bought that extinguisher in good faith, and the manufacturers have a responsibility to ensure at least a minimal level of quality control, which appears was not there.

What if somebody (your wife, or child?) had been trapped in the car?

I'm truly not of the "Sue 'em" mentality, but I think you should really consider it. You may just save somebodies life if you can get these extinguishers either improved or pulled from sale.

Good luck whichever way you go, it sounds like you are due some good karma.

Best wishes,
Dave

I am very sorry for your loss,

But it sounds to me you all are buying the wrong fire extinguishers, the powder ones suck, try investing into a Halon/pyrene fire extinguishers: they are specially made for oil and fuel fires.

My lawnmower caught on fire, I took my fire extinguisher out and sprayed it for maybe a second, and the fire was out. Since then I got it refilled. Its a great extinguisher, and I keep it in my car at all times. However its a bit pricey, I spent 300$ on it(it is full size tho), I know they do have smaller ones you can buy online tho for around 100. YOU WILL NOT BE Disappointed, they are awesome!

Even if you think it was fate and won't sue HD or Kidde you really should raise a stink about the defective Fire Extinguisher. I suggest you make a video showing that it doesn't work, then report it to Hope Depot corporate office, Kiddie corporate office, your fire dept. etc. Also, report it to the National Fire Protection Assoc. (www.nfpa.org). Ph: Tel: +1 617 770-3000 Email to investigations@nfpa.org They should advise you on what to do and maybe they have received many similar complaints which would warrant and investigation into the product's defect. Then also send the video with a letter and pictures to the local TV station who likes to air this type of stuff. Include the police report too. I hope you got a police report on this.

Not doing anything about it won't get the product fixed and could get someone else hurt. Please bring it to their attenion!

Many sympathies on your loss!

^^^^ i support this!!! i know many people take advantage of the system when it come to sueing but just think but it... your house is on fire and your Kid was in the house. the only way to get passed the fire to your kids bedroom to save them is this fire extinguisher. which didn't work now (heaven forbid) your kid is now gone. worst case but not i'm possible to happen. i wouldn't ask for a million dollars or something crazy but the value of the car + a little extra for the cost of the lawer and have the extinguisher pulled from the shelves and reinspected to insure complience.

Sue . . . . i think this is Karma not Greed that will justify you following through with a lawsuit. You trusted their company to keep that fire down and they failed you . . . .

sorry for your lost.

For everyone including myself...having 1 or even 2 fire extinquisher in the car is NOT ENOUGH...and same for your house. Test them, practice how to user them, know where they are...every six months.

I got a close call with my Cobra...the working f.e save her.
