Pull turbos with downpipe connected?

Can you pull the turbos with a downpipe connected? I've disconnected the downpipe from the main cat and also removed three of the four nuts holding the downpipe on at the manifold. The part I am having trouble with is an allen head bolt that was used in place of a stud. It won't come out.

PB blaster is your friend here dude. Soak that sucker overnight, and hit it tomorrow, because I don't think your getting the turbos out with that DP still attached.

Good luck.

...if possible use an allen bit with a long socket wrench.

Do you have room to smack the allen wrench with a rubber mallet hammer? You might remove the y-pipe if you haven't as that should give you tons more room.

I've removed the y-pipe and I have access to the bolt from the top and from the bottom. I'll go under tomorrow to see if it's any better. There is a little room to get a mallet in there, but I'm not sure if there will be enough room to swing it.

It's weird. I've been able to turn the bolt, but it doesn't feel like it is loosening. I hope it isn't stripped.

HEAT HEAT and HEAT. Get a propane torch and heat that nut or bolt until it glows. (make sure you employ proper safety practices) If it binds up stop and heat it again.

If it turns and doesn't loosen, it's stripped. The good news is now you can carefully try to pry off the downpipe and pop that bolt out.

You won't be able to re-use that dp gasket, of course.

If you know how to "double-wrench", you can use that method on the long end of the allen wrench and create more torque without worrying about the tight space issue.

I finally got the allen head bolt out. Unfortunately I can't get the downpipe off. I might have to remove the other lower stud so I can get enough room to clear the frame rail. So far I have most of the manifold nuts off, except for 3. Once I get those off I should have enough room to reposition the turbos for more clearance.

Thanks for the link. I'm definitely going to buy them. I'll probably buy a new downpipe too, since the one I have doesn't fit very well. I would not have had this problem if the downpipe would slide on without having to reposition the turbos.
