Overflow tank hose

I finally got to properly deleting my AST, hooked up the overflow tank hose that was just laying around to the new nipple on the filler neck. There’s something inside the hose of the overflow tank and I was wondering if that was normal, it’s near the tank and it’s a bit hard, do I need a new hose?

The hose was off before I did the AST delete and it wasn’t leaking or anything and it had coolant in the overflow tank

That's a male-to-male connector, all it does is join two separate lengths of hose. Realistically it could probably be completely replaced with a proper length of hose that has the same internal diameter.

If you've got time to remove and clean it, the overflow tank is probably full of 20+ years worth of old gunk. Many people replace theirs since it's so hard to get clean, but if you have time you can get it pretty clean using rice and dishwasher soap packets. A pressure washer might work well, but I haven't got one.
