The oppisite rad fan problem

Ok so i have searched and cant seem to find someone that has my problem. My radiator fans wont turn off when i shut off my car. When i got the car they ran for about 15 min after shut off. Now after i did a rebuild it just wont shut off. I have read that it will run after you shut off the car if you ground out one of the fan relays, which is what i think my car was set up like. When i turn my ignision to the on position they stop, then when i start the car they just stay on all the time. Anyone got any ideas of whats going on it really sucks to have to pop my hood and take out my fuse every where i go.

The wire is actually near the ECU. There will be a black single wire connector, remove the ground that was added and see if that fixes the problem.

Also, have you unplugged your fan relays at all? If you hooked them back up wrong the will do all kinds of crazy stuff.

Well took off the grounds that my ecu had the one with the black plug too. Just kept on as usual, checked all my relays and found the same nothing seems to stop these stupid things. I dont want to wire in a toggle switch cuz i would risk forgeting it some time.

If you took the gound out, then you could have a relay that is sticking, there are 4 to malfunction. Start disconnecting them one at a time until the fans shut off, this will at least narrow it down to the area of the problem. Sounds like Uncle is correct, someone may have hooked the realys up wrong before you got the car. There is a recall kit that should have been installed, maybe it was put in wrong.

Thats the thing though it worked fine till i rebuilt the motor, and i did not touch the relays at all. So grounding out will leave them running and open will make them just come on.....

It is not a very complex circuit. Look in the FSM and follow the wires. If removing the ground didn't work then there is a problem with the system.

Ok i think i found the problem, I was reading and it sounded like the thermal sensor is the culprit. I looked at it and it was hanging on by like two strands of wire. I redid the wiring and it still didnt work but i think i need to reset my ecu and it will be fine. So i will try that today and see if it works.

For the life of me i cant figure out why my fans will not turn off. I have ungrounded the plug to the ecu. Is it possible that i need to reset my ecu with the ground ungrounded, cuz it has codes stored in there that keep my fans on???

Even though your problem is opposite from mine, take a close look at the relay connectors. Disconnect the relays and shine a light behind each connector. I had one connector that had the dividing wall melt which shorted 2 pins together, +12v to Ground. That popped my Meter fuse and lost my cooling fans.
