How to Diagnose a bad Air Pump?

To make a long story short, I bought an air injection pump last year off somebody from this forum and last week suddenly the clutch stopped working AS I was looking at it, and hasn't worked since.

How do I diagnose the air pump to be SURE its bad before I replace it?

Are you referring to the SMOG pump that feeds air to the CAT?

If so, if the clutch is bad, a sure way to diagnose would be to apply a 12v source through the connector to see if it causes the clutch to engage or not. If it does not engage, then you will probably need to have it rebuilt. If it does engage with a direct 12v applied, then you can start searching up stream to see if it is the relay or some other problem.

I checked it just now and used some jumper cables and hooked the power and ground directly to the battery, and the magnetic clutch DID engage and disengage, so I guess it works??

The other possibilities besides the Air Pump would be.... The A/P/ relay, the wiring, or the ECU.

The A/P relay is good, I hooked it up to the battery and got it clicking.

Last possibilities are: The wiring, or the ECU.
Since I doubt the terminal on the ecu failed in the blink of an eye, I believe its the wiring, thanks I'll check it out.

what are the symptoms you are chasing down--meaning, what are you expecting to happen that's not happening? You know that it's the ACV which actually directs the air from the air pump to the exhaust ports and the split air pipe?? With the clutch engaged and the engine running, is air coming out of the hose from the pump to the ACV?

Check the fuses as well.

Ah I found the problem. It was the wiring. It was a wiring repair I had done previously, but it was only being held together by like 2 strands of wire. when I stripped the wire back and jumpered it, I heard the clutch engage while the air pump was in the vehicle. The wire is damaged so far back I have to melt the insulation off of the wire with my soldering iron because of lack of room, but its working, Im gonna take my time to do it right this time, thanks guys. At least the Air Pump isnt bad and this cost $0 to fix.

I've heard a lot of good things with crimping. You should go that route. Look into weatherpack splicers.
