Hey guys, been a decade since I've posted. I have a friend who bought a 94 FD off the showroom floor, then parked it for the past 13 years. unfortunately he didn't maintain it, it just sat. here are the things i've done thus far:
- Replaced all bad gas
- Changed plugs
- Changed oil and filter
- New battery
No fuel was getting to the motor when turned over, so I pulled the main fuel line in the motor next to the oil filter and also in the trunk off the fuel pump and blew through it, it has no resistance so the fuel filter is fine - Old fuel flowed out of the line easily up front. I then tested the fuel pump connector for power, and it was only reading 2 volts when key was cranking. I then applied direct 12v power to the pump to see if it would turn on, and nothing happens. Q: Do those 2 smaller wires on the fuel pump connector need to be connected to get the pump to turn on or only the ground and W/R wire? Any advice would be appreciated!
Could a fuel pump with only 26k miles be bad from sitting for so long? I have worked on FD's many times but shockingly never had a fuel problem. I'm trying to sort out what my next steps are to help him.
If it's aftermarket pump time, I don't think i'm the guy for the job, i'd prefer to be able to find a stock pump as he wants this as stock as possible .

I've seen cars with 10k miles and less have a bad pump from sitting. These cars are getting tro be 26-27 years old. Measure voltage at the fuel pump connector with the fp and and gnd pins jumped in the diagnostics box. I was able to buy an oem pump from Mazda within the last year. Not sure about now. I may have a couple new pumps at the shop.
For the pump you can get a Walbro 255. It will require cutting the fuel pump wiring but the pump itself bolts in.
Mind you this is JUST the pump, not the hanger and fuel level sender. I can't tell from the picture how bad it is, you may be able to clean it up.
Also there is a drain at the bottom of the tank - get that old gas out of there and get some fresh gas in.

Thanks Dale, I actually just found a brand new Factory denso pump from Dan at Atkins! I did drai nthe fuel out as well, and cleared the lines all the way to the engine
Question: does the diagnostic port turn on the injectors if I jump the fuel pump terminal? I got fuel going again with a brand new pump, I tested it with the Diagnostic port, but now i'm worried i just filled the block with fuel....
I am pretty sure it does not fire the injectors if you jump the terminal. In fact, the factory service manual says to jump the terminal for (10) seconds to build fuel pressure before starting.
