Spun off the road, down the hill, over the crest, got air born, through the link fence, over the pool cover and hanging over the edge of the pool on the opposite side. i think a little good luck was thrown in along the way =) hehe

He must have dodged the cops about 4 times while owning that car. Whoo...the good ol late teen days. haha

Sorry to hear about the accident. I think it is crazy that a 17 year old has an FD. I also am incredibly jelous that I didn't have an FD when I was 17. I am sure this kid has realized his mistake and will learn from it in the future.

Side note...I have to repect him a little for not giving up on the RX-7 as he is going to buy a new one.

Best of luck.

The car came with some brand new Hankook Ventus...I burned the rears in 3k miles and have switched to falken GRB FK-451. Toyo T-1S is a great tire also...excellent wear, dry grip AND wet grip.
Hands down S-03 pole position tires are the best performance tires I've used on the FD. I won't use anything else, and I recommend them to anybody looking to replace their tires soon.

Tires are one of the most important aspects of a car. Don't go cheap!

My question is, how will you pay for 2 FD's? Did your insurance cover 100% of the cost of the one you wrecked? And also, your insurance is probably going to be sky-high, if they don't drop you first. It might be in your best interest to get something else till your driving record recovers.

The FD itself is fairly safe as far as light weight sport coupes go...

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...highlight=safe

It's in the hands of a bad or inexperienced driver that they become dangerous.

I daily drove my FD all year long. I live in the NW and if you aren't driving in the rain, you're not driving. I even drove it 500 miles through an ice storm over the pass. I've never lost control of my car. I'm with everyone else when I say get a different car.

Yeah, he was 18 and just got life insurance money. His first car was a Cavalier Z24. He was not ready for a car like that. That was back in 1998. He let me drive it numerous times and i fell in love with it. Six years later, I know have my own.

Well, I get Falkens and Toyos ( and now Yoko's ) at warehouse prices, so those are the ones I reccomend. The T1-S is better than the FK-451, but a good bit cheaper and is actually very comparable. They both have silica rubber compound.

Bridgestone tires are a little overpriced IMO..... I used to work for Firestone Service Center and saw all of the prices of Firestone/Bridgestone tires.

exactly. i drive my FD in the rain all the time... its about caution and finesse. alot of ppl dont seem to understand that... especially the idiots that tailgate me in the rain trying to go 20mph over the speed limit in less-than-safe conditions.

this car is not for novices
novice+lightweight+RWD+more than average HP+wet conditions= wrecked

True, I didn't mean to imply that you were running shitty tires and I'm not sure why I quoted you.

That comment was meant for all the people out there dumping all kinds of money into power mods and then getting crappy tires and wondering why they spun out in the rain. Of course everyone seems ready and willing to buy all these high quality parts for their FD but then skimp big time on tires. Go figure...

damn, it makes me sad that i was so meticulus the car, and soon after i sell it, it looks like that. But, thats ok, as most everyone already stated. ITS JUST A CAR! if people are truly upset about this loss, you really need to get a life.

no... dont really believe that

but honestly

i dont see how you guys could have sympthy for this guy

it is RETARDED

he CHOSE to drive stupid and crashed his car... the actions that he chose made him crash... he did it, not something/someone else... why is everyone feeling sorry for him?

that is exactly like a robber robbing a bank... then got arrested.... and all of you still show sympthy for the robber... even though he did something completely in his decision...

and now for the double standard

did anyone bring up the fact that that pole could of been someone, what if someone gets hurt? NO ONE brought that up... what if he crashed into another car due to his stupid actions? or evne killed someone? i am sure what he did was as bad as what some of you might think of when you hear the term street racing

sure... one could say that kid is a good person... but one could also say the bank robber has a family to feed??

I can't say how the S-03 poles are...although I've seen many people recommend them on this forum, including Jim and yourself. But you know, there better be a WORLD of difference between them and my Falken FK-451s...because I've been running these for a while, and I hit the road courses w/ 'em...I can't recall EVER losing traction w/ these babies...be it wet or dry. I've even driven through storms w/ horrible rain at 90mph (thanks to Rainex) w/ no problems whatsoever. So I still don't get why people joan on Falkens...to me, they're sticky as hell, AND have very good tread life...so for the money, I think they're the best tires you can get.

As for the rain issue...yea sure it can be done. But that doesn't make it a good idea. The FD is so light and so powerful. It won't take much to throw it around if you hydroplane or hit a puddle or patch of ice/snow etc. It doesn't matter how long you've been driving the car under poor weather conditions, it's just not smart or safe.

LOL...isn't that MY line? hehe. But seriously, I've tried. She stays glued to the ground. Yes, I've lost traction once or twice here and there, but that was because I was a dumbass and took a sharp turn MUCH too fast...wouldn't have mattered if I was runnin S03s or superglue on the rims lol.

With the S-03s you could take it faster . Invest in a set, I guarantee you won't regret it.

Maybe we should move this thread to the wheels/tires/suspension section of the forum now.

I totally understand and agree with what you are are saying... but I have learned that trying to explain examples like this to most of the people on this message board is futile. Their minds and judgements are usually with the consensus, one sided and closed to the obvious. They can have empathy for one person in a situation and not give a damn for another in the exact same situation. It's best just to know in your own mind that YOU are correct in your thinking and say to hell with everyone else

Too bad. But its just a car and some learn it the hard way.

And to others - dont live in a box. FD is just another car and if you use your head and your senses you can also drive it in weather like this (summer tyres fitted but not that I recommend anyone doing so):

Its possible and it can be done. Dont drive car in rain... bleh.. nonsense. Throttle is not something that is either ON or OFF... there are lots of variances inbetween And one should always adapt to road conditions and anticipate in advance and he'll be fine.

What everyone one should do once in a while actually is take the car to a controlled area (big parking lot, racetrack, ...) and get some driving skills or better enlist in a driving/racing school.
