If you are smart and recognize the limits of the car and the limits of your driving skills, I think it’s very unlikely that you will be in an accident that is your fault. I hate it when people base their opinions on just the age of the driver. I find it odd that a senior citizen who can't see so well anymore, drives into oncoming traffic, and over medians (seen it many times, and have been in a car with a senior that has done so) and can have an insurance rate 1/3 the cost of mine because I am so young. My point is, you can be a bad driver at any age, you just need to know what you’re doing.
I agree, Im 19(20 in 1.8months) now and I have had my rx7 since 17 now! When I was younger I justknew that I needed to figure out the limits of my skills so that I didn't exceed them. By playing inparking lots, going to SCCA race tracks, drag strips and just really learned my experience from driving my 89' Plymouth voyager and my 00' Pontiac Trans am. But I also agree with not having the car out in that type of weather is pretty stupid to do! These cars are built for speed and cornering not snow drifting otherwise they would equipt them with all wheel drive. But good luck with whatever you (fastdriven7) decide to do, just learn the car before going all out, and never become overconfident. Overconfidence leads to not seeing possible mistakes that can happen.

I own a CW 94 FD also, but I'm extremely thankful that I learned my lesson in a Mustang V6 (RIP). Every single teenager thinks that they are invincible until their first accident happens. With the FD, I'm extraordinarily careful, and have never even pushed the car past 7/10ths. I do all my learning in empty parking lots. I have never felt anything worse than how I felt stepping out of a car with the stench of airbag powder all over me and the front corner crushed. Be careful! And also, stop posting pictures of wrecked CW's! You're gonna give me a heart attack!

Ummmmm ok, under no circumstances should you ever ever EVER admit to owning any year Ford Escort or even admit that you looked into buying an escort in your lifetime right. It is equally as disheartening.

And for admitting it publicly on this forum, you are officially no longer a rotorhead.

I noticed it. I would never, ever, ever drive my FD if I suspected sleet or freezing rain.

But then again, there are many experiences in life I've missed out on because I'm not abundantly stupid. Oh well.

There is only one problem with that.... these cars are not "exotics". Great cars and great performers for the dollar but not exotics. I will quote Jimlab on this one and believe I hate to quote Jimlab but "an exotic car is not something you can drive to the local highschool and see two sitting in the parking lot" As far as not driving these cars in the rain and bad weather please tell me you are joking? Im sure when Mazda sold these cars they said "warning park cars in garage in inclement weather" I hate to see these cars get wrecked but for those saying they would rather be dead then wreck their fd you seriously need to reevaluate your lives. Dont get me wrong I love rx7s but seriously it is just a car.

I was going to stay out of this, but what the hell

I think it was probably a young mistake that contributed to the wreck, but nobody here can sit here adn say they didnt do some dumb **** before the age of 20...I sure as hell did. It just so happened that he was in a nicer, more expensive, and rare car when it happened, than the mistakes I made and most of us made when we were younger.

That being said, though these are somewhat rare and desireable cars, they're not friggen mclarens. Theyre not even close to being considered exotics. Exotics cost at least 4 times what the FD costed new, and usually boast at least twice the stock hp as the fd. I think it might have been jimlab or someone who put it best in a previous post on this forum, something along the lines of "I dont consider the FD an exotic, because my definition of exotic does not include being able to find 1 or 2 of them at the local high school parking lot".

As I've said before, some of you guys need a reality check. True, these are nice, capable, rare cars that hold their value fairly well, but they are just a 10+ year old japanese mazda, nothing overly special. I love driving and owning one, and getting the looks and comments it commands, but that doesnt mean I have to go around acting like and thinking that I'm the big **** because of it. People tend to have more ***** on the internet than in person, and the FD crowd on the internet is one of the toughest crowds around, so take anything you read here with a grain of salt.

Thanks Dave...I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who was thinking the same...

FD's are dangerous on dry perfect pavement w/ wide good tires. You'd be asking for trouble driving them at 8/10ths their limit, and that's under practically perfect conditions. I don't understand how people claim FDs can be safe in rain, snow, or sleet...

Second of all that wrx video is scary ****, thats exactly what happened to me, not fun.

And by the way how old are you, or are you trying to avoid some embarassment, just come out with it.
someone please make it stop. these guys are running Auschwitz for FDs.

I just dont see where you draw the conclusion these cars are dangerous in the rain. I have driven in numerous rx7s with different suspensions/tires/wheels/mods and never have I felt unsafe in the rain. I actually drove from DC to Atlanta for Nopi last year and the majority of the trip I was driving thru the inland storms of Hurricane Ivan and never had a problem. A car is only as safe as the driver is disciplined. Im sure there are quite a few people on here who drive their cars daily and when it rains I highly doubt they call into work sick and tell the boss they are sorry they cant make it because their car is so insanely fast it cant be driven in the rain.

so you really think what you did was right
ok your grandfather died... what does that have to do with crashing your parents car?
you didnt pay a cent for it - why would you feel bad?
you crashed it, you are just going to act tough **** on the internet and then have your parents buy you another one...
me on the other hand, is doing the whole auto/manual swap for my friends FD so he will pay me 250 for it... so i have enough money to buy enough parts to rebuild the engine on my FC...
I am 17, yet i am not a fucked up little rich spoiled brat like you are...
I am starting to feel a slightest bit good about myself...
*sighs*

i have a 1.9k FC
if i crash it, i would not be happy
