Makes me think twice about selling my car to this 18 year old who came to look at it yesterday. Said he just wanted it for street racing. Ugh. I put too much work in it for it to end up like that, don't think I'll sell it to him even though he's paying a lot more than what it's worth.

I didnt start this thread with the intent for everyone to flame the guy for wrecking the car. IT is just a car. Keep that in mind. Just making sure people realize what can happen if you arent careful in cars of this calibur.

give the kid a break, its already tough enough to lose such a beautiful car. im sure in the same conditions prolly 90% of us could have not avoided this.

well anyways tell me if you think this guy should not own a wrx http://www.impreza.nu/ssi2/expo/albu.../TraffAMCO.mpg

**** happens and sometimes it gets the best of us.

90% of us wouldn't be driving our cars at 40mph with sleet on the roads.

90% of us are smart enough to NOT DRIVE the car at all when road conditions are poor. Believing that god will somehow protect you when you are doing something so stupid is ridiculous. Please don't buy another FD. They were really made for better drivers.

You said that you were not born in 1988, and are not 17. How old are you, or does god not want us to know

I drive my car only on sunny days, and dry nights, my first car I learned to take corners in is a Jeep Wrangler(yes I can drift in it), If you learn somthin like that to take corners, the FD is insanely easy to take corners in, but driving it in sleet or rain isnt the best idea, I keep mine garaged at all times, until I decide to drive it(about 100-200miles a week), its just a matter of knowing the cars limits, even a pro driver prolly wouldnt wanna take a FD out in sleet, but thats imo,

Its a learning experience for yah man, and I'm pretty sure you wont make that same mistake again. Ease your way into the car, start driving it on great days, slowly learn the car over at least a year, and then you can start doing some insane stuff

I was actually driving the car in about an inch of snow the week before I sold it to him. These cars arent dangerous in the rain or snow if you use caution. Anyone who daily drives theirs will have to drive in bad road conditions. IF you use caution you will be just fine. He was just new to the car and made a mistake. Life goes on.

Not for that beautiful car!! It's dead, and he killed it. Many of us take offense at that.

you are completely out of your mind. these cars are dangerous in any of the above conditions, especially without a VERY good set of snow tires, which i assume were not on the car. i have gotten my car stuck in my driveway in less than a couple of inches of packed snow and i've been driving in winter weather for more than 20 years. rain may be slightly less dangerous, but i find that you still need to use extreme caution, especially if you have any kind of hp mods. these are not year round cars imo.

This time it was just a car. Next time...

Some people have to learn the hard way how to drive a sports car. I'm not going hard on this guy because he destroyed a car, but he essentially put his life at risk.

DrivenFast788, if you do get another FD, or any other sports car for that matter, an empty parking lot is your friend.

I live around here and know david very well and am good friends with him and have been for awhile. He hasnt been in a wreck before. I was at school with a few friends and a guy passed david right before here wrecked and I said he was only goin 35mph and the witness was like more like 135mph....... Obviously a little exxageration but he was exceeding the speed limit in the rain. I know he wants another Rx-7 and im sure he will learn from his own mistakes, but i think the same way you all do about this, I dont want him kill himself or total another 3rd gen. I suggested gettin a 300zx or maybe even a supra... somethin I wouldnt care as much about totalling

agreed, experience isnt something you get just because you want it. and i think a NA supra or 300 would be a better choice for a 1st RWD car...

Sounds like it was a dumb, lack of driving experience mistake most likely directly related to your age. Not everyone makes mistakes, I've had my FD 5 years and never had so much as a ticket, let alone an accident.

I bet your insurance company loves you (or most likely your parents) policy now

Belive me, it's going to take a lot more than practice in a truck. Technically my first car that I learned to drive was a '77 Thunderbird and a year later I upgraded (or downgraded) to a brand spankin' new '87 Escort GT w/ 11 miles. Had the car for 2 months before I understeered into a curb while showing off on a wet street. From that day (18 years ago) forward, I learned never to underestimate any vehicle and to never overshoot my abilities.

I don't think age has anything to do with this. Experience has a lot to do with it, as does maturity. I am only 21 and have owned my FD since I was 19. Since then I have had once close call on black ice, and that’s it. If you are smart and recognize the limits of the car and the limits of your driving skills, I think it’s very unlikely that you will be in an accident that is your fault. I hate it when people base their opinions on just the age of the driver. I find it odd that a senior citizen who can't see so well anymore, drives into oncoming traffic, and over medians (seen it many times, and have been in a car with a senior that has done so) and can have an insurance rate 1/3 the cost of mine because I am so young. My point is, you can be a bad driver at any age, you just need to know what you’re doing.

A couple of things:

First of all, I feel your pain drivenfast. I am 17 and I wrecked my FD last november. I will be purchasing another one next week and am extremely excited. All in all, I would have to say that it was an invaluable experience for me and taught me a lot of humility and that I am not invincible. I will never again push the car's limits in an environment that is not suited for it and I think that you should try to take something from this experience as well.

Second of all that wrx video is scary ****, thats exactly what happened to me, not fun.

And by the way how old are you, or are you trying to avoid some embarassment, just come out with it.
