Noob ? - Premix without mess?

I've got a working OMP. I've decided, (for a variety of reasons, none of which are highly informed) to premix. I've read all the threads I could find but had a pretty silly question when I actually went to do it yesterday. How do you poor the oil into the tank without creating a mess? The small spring flap that covers the fill hole holds back the oil. I don't want the oil to back up and go into what I think is the vent hole on the left side of the fill opening.

What do you guys do?

You can buy a long thin funnel just for pouring into gas tanks.

I went to a hobby shop and got a plastic R/C airplane refueling bottle. It's clear plastic, with gradations so that i can see how much i put in, and it has a long AL tubular spout that will pop open the flap in the filler neck.

I got a slab of foam, cut it in the shape of the rear driver's side bin, and then hollowed out to holes in it in the shape of the bottom of this bottle and the bottom of a quart of oil, so both sit neatly in there and don't spill.

If the oil goes into that "vent hole", is that a problem?

You can find a plastic funnel at any autoparts store, I just squirt some gas in the funnel after adding the oil and it washes the oil away and then remove it and let the gas residue evaporate while im filling the tank. Its completely clean and dry by the time the tank is full and I just put it in the bin, no rags, no mess.

I picked up a special funnel from autozone just for this. It's a long rubber tube with a plastic screw on end piece that fits the premix bottle and has an on/off feature like you get with a spray bottle. So you put the hose in the tank, twist to the on position, pour in the desired ammount, twist to the off position, let the hose drain, then remove it. no mess. plust it has a removable plug on the other end of the rubber hose so any premix left in there won't leak into your car.

It's exactly like this, except without the funnel hopper on the end.

Thanks for all the great ideas. So far the ones that seem the best for me are the funnel spout that screws onto the bottle or the RC fuel thing. I also like the idea of the foam in the bin.

I'll have to check out that RC bottle. I used to use the Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner bottles (for 12gal). Those worked great but are a little large. I am currently using the Lucas Injector Cleaner and Lubricant bottles. I buy them at O'Reilly's or wherever and dump the contents into a piston car's gas tank. The Lucas bottle is a PERFECT size for 4oz of premix - for supplementing the OMP. It will hold 5oz if you want it to.

Simply get a funnel like this from Wally World or any auto parts store. Keep a can of carb cleaner like this (it is cheap, like $1.50 a can) to spray your funnel with when you are done pouring in your oil. It cleans it out and leaves it residue free.
