new gaskets necessary for downpipe (DP) install ?
Are new gaskets necessary for a downpipe install ?
Regardless, can someone post part numbers and approx. cost ?
This will be my Thanksgiving project . . .
Thanks,

I reused my dp to manifold gasket. It's expensive, IIRC around $90. Mine was still in very good condition, and I've had no leaks to date. But, replace it if you've got any doubts. Installing a dp isn't a job I'd like to do twice. I replaced the dp to cat gasket. It was $7 + shipping from www.rx7store.net.
Pete, all the downpipe gaskets are stamped stainless - I think you're confusing the lower intake manifold gasket, early versions of which were paper.
It's a good idea to get a new downpipe to turbo gasket - it may or may not need it, but it's MUCH easier to replace it at that time. The downpipe to main cat gasket is relatively easy to get to, so if it leaks, just get one later and install it quickly and easily.
Glad to hear the new ride is getting a downpipe, Neil!
You'll have to post pics of the stock JDM downpipe.

I bought a shiny, new gasket for my DP install, but after brushing off the old one I re-used it. I sold the new one to a forum member who discovered only half of his DP gasket was still on the manifold. Before you drop a c-bill on something that I doubt you'll need, go to a hardware store and pick up a wire brush (like one used to clean welds). It works wonders.

This isn't the DP gasket and it won't clean THIS well, but I was happy with the results.

Well, I called my mechanic (Colin), and the shop he works for (Atlantic Imported Auto, JAX, FL) had an opening so they did my downpipe install this afternoon in under 3-hours.
All gaskets were good, just had to replace one stud, which I had from my spare motor.
Thus, no pictures. She really pulls now.
Thanks again for everyone's help. If you want good RX7 work, take it to my mechanic. He use to do SCCA Spec-7 racing. He also came to the JAX GTG last week (November).
Unfortunately, I still think I have a leak somewhere . . .

As long as the stock gasket is cleaned well, and the downpipe flange is nice and flat, you shouldn't have any trouble re-using it.
Do not try any type of felt gasket or gasket goo since they will burn at turbo manifold temperatures.
