Need Quick Boost Help! - Not a vacuum line.

I have been having boost trouble the last couple weeks. It seems I get 5 lbs of boost at first, then at 4500 rpm, drops to 1,then returns to about 2 or 3 for a second then drops steadily to zero till redline. Also, at 2500 rpms, I hear a quick blow of air coming out, it sounds like when you blow across the top of an empty beer bottle (a hollow sound), then as I increase acceleration, a "whoosh" of air is distinctly heard, and increases according to how hard I accelerate. Thought maybe a vacuum line had popped off, but took it to a buddy's shop today and took off the UIM and found no unconnected lines or leaks of any kind; in fact, the hoses were still quite pliable. So, now where should I look to? I'm going back to my buddies garage in about an hour so any help would be huge. I have only had my FD for about 2 months now, and I really would like to have it running full strength again. By the way, it's a'93 with 58,000 miles. Thanks in advance.

Justin

check the intercooler piping hoses. especially the coupling coming off of the two turbos. that usually cracks. other than that, make sure the hoses coming off the turbos going to the charge releif valve and blow off valve are tight. i was able to actually turn the crv hose when it was still clamped. nick

Thanks nmo93, I'll check that out tomorrow. Any one else have any suggestions, I'm sick of punks in Civics coming up to me and not being able to do anything about it. Also, since putting my UIM back on, my idle is extremely low and rough, approx. 500 rpms. It's so low that if I turn on my AC my car dies. Could it be possible that I forgot to hook up a vacuum line? Thanks again.

after you tighten all hose clamps on the primary boost side and still have the problem........

remove the 2 accordian air hoses between the airfilter box and the Y pipe. you will see a black rubber hose approx 3 inches wide by 3 inches long that sits on top of the Y pipe. ( Y pipe is an aluminum casting connecting the output side of the 2 turbos.

remove the 3 inch hose and carefully inspect it for a crack.

good luck,

I would hope that this guy fixed his car 2 years ago, when he asked for help.
