Need Help Choosing Turbo

I'm planning on upgrading my turbo soon and I cant decide between the XS T04s or the BNR stage 3 upgraded twins. My goal is to hit mid to high 11's and i figure this might take about 400whp. I know the BNR is the more cost effective way to go but is it capable of pumping out 400hp to the wheels? Which turbo has quicker spool up and less lag? Also if i were to get the upgraded twins would it have the same problems with reliability as the stock twins because of all the vaccum lines? This is my daily driver so i need something as streetable as possible. Thanks in advance.

I will be going with the GT35/40, myself. It doesn't take quite as long to spool as the T-88 or T-78, but it still provides a great deal more power than the stock twins.

Also, going to a single will help eliminate some of the complexities of the twin setup (vacuum lines and such).

Just my opinion

The BNR Stage 3's have been proven. Dynoed at 414rwhp and trapped 125mph in the 1/4 mile. Thats at 17psi on pump.

Ask Wargasm about the T04S.

I would get a GT35/40 or the stage 3's. I dont care about the 1/4.. I just want top end. Crazy top end.

I'm not really a big fan of GReddy turbo kits and for the price of a t-78 I would much rather get a t04s from xs. The only reason i want to go with the twins is because its so much cheaper than the single turbo kits.

I think the 412 or appx rwhp # put out by SPOautos on the BNR 3's was also not really tuned yet.. If that's the case, could probly get ~430 out of them.

So is the BNR setup as reliable as a single turbo setup or is it just as bad as stock?

Whats up all. The Stage 3's are very efficient at a low boost level. They are perfect for pump fuel. Peek efficiency is reached at about 17.5 psi. The To4S garretts reach peak efficiency in the mid 20's. Great for race gas, and helified tuning . I am going for 430-440 rwhp on pump fuel with the stage 3's so keep your fingers crossed...

I'm along with this thread too...t04s or t04e or GT35/40...so many damn options.

I don't believe in spending good money on rebuilt turbos (BNRs). Spend the long green, and get brand new Japan spec Type RS/RZ ('99) Sequential Twins. $2910 from Mazdaspeed Motorsports. $2600 from SR Motorsports. Reliability will be MUCH better, especially if you open-track the FD.

Well, the I run the Stage 3s in parallel, so all the sequential crapola is sitting in the shed in Kan's backyard. I get rock solid boost every time with no spikes or creep. When tuning Steve mentioned that my car feels faster than his drag car on pump gas. Did I mention that as soon as I get over one bar in 1st and 2nd gear I spin the hell out of my 265 width S03s ?

I'm very happy with the Stage 3s. All the advantages of a single at a fraction of the price. Thanks Bryan!

I got my new '99 J-spec twins last Nov for $2599 from SR Motorsports. I guess they were overstock items? The next best place to get new J-spec twins is Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development for $2910 http://www.mazdamotorsports.com/weba...0001&langId=-1 You'll need to autocross twice per year, and submit your race results to qualify for a discount and to order parts from Mazdaspeed. Good luck!
