A bunch of people sell the Mazdaspeed PPF, with claims of it being stiffer/sturdier. You can also go stock. The MS unit is listed at 54,000 yen on the MS website, but I dont' know if that's the best price on it.

I snapped mine and got a new one from Rotary Performance/RX7.com. It was $449. Here's what their site says about it:

We offer the Mazdaspeed Reinforced Power Plant Frame, recommended for road racing, autocross, drag racing and even extreme street duty. These frames are constructed of strong, hot rolled steel which improves their strength by 10% over the standard units. By using this stressed member, chassis hardness is increased with no increase in weight. Drive train bending from throttle on/off movements is reduced as well as cracking from age and engine torque. Powder coated red for sporty looks and corrosion protection.

You can also get stock ones through Mazda Comp for, I believe, $274. Mazdaspeed versions have increased in price (from $350 to about $450) since they aren't importing any at the moment and supplies are running low.

I have also noticed that the Mazdaspeed PPF is slightly thicker in a few areas ... ie typical breaking/cracking points.

I think it was FDokinawa who broke his MS PPF, so it does have its weaknesses.

The RE amemiya is 20% stronger then stock, 10% stronger then the mazdaspeed and cheaper. It's $375.95 shipped with the above website.

One thing to keep in mind is that sometimes it's good that certain things break. Apparently the only way to break a stock PPF is excessive wheel hop (or maybe 100k miles of use). If you make your PPF stronger, instead of it breaking under these extreme conditions you'll be transmitting these shocks to whatever the next weakest link is. In the scheme of things, the PPF is relatively cheap and easy to change. Something to consider.....
