PPF purchase info

I finally split my PPF completely in two after waiting for 2 months for one to arrive in the mail. Thought I might save you guys some research time if you're in the same boat...

I thought I wanted a Mazdaspeed PPF since I've read muliple times on this forum that they're stronger and shouldn't break. So I made a purchase from (before I knew better). A month later it hadn't arrived, so I checked with them to make sure nothing was wrong, and they said it hadn't arrived yet, but they hoped it would be shipped out that week. So I waited another month and it still didn't show up. Checked with them again and now the story was "at this time I have no ETA from Mazda on the PPF." So I cancelled the order. Since I can never seem to get anyone on the phone anywhere, I emailed SR Motorsports, the RX7 Store, and RX7.com to see if they had them in stock. RX7.com was the only one to respond, but they wanted $449 where everyone else advertises $350. After inquiring why they were so much more expensive, the said that they were the only ones in the US that had one, and that it's probably the last one that will be available in the US.

So phoned up the old Mazda Comp which is now Mazdaspeed. They said Mazdaspeed isn't importing any parts until they work out some legalities. But more importantly they said the Mazdaspeed PPF is only 10% stronger than a stock unit. With the discount for sending in race results, they could have me a stock unit the same day for $289 + shipping. Needless to say, stocker on the way! Just wanted to compliment them again, though. They're very knowledgable, they always answer their phone, and they have awesome prices thanks to Mazda's support.

Anyway, thought I might be able to save somebody some time. A broken PPF isn't really a part I want to be driving around on!

That's cool dude...

I looked one around for a while too, and I think I'm gonna go w/ CorkSport on this one. Your's split in two ? while you're driving ? hehehe... how's the ride ?
Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll go w/ Mazda Comp if Corksport fails.

It didn't totally break in half. It's shaped like an "L", so the part that's horizontal is still solid since it can bend in the correct direction. The crack went from the hole in the vertical part all the way to the edge, and then flexed open so that you can see the shiny bare metal. To be honest, I think it was partially cracked since when I bought the car, so I really don't know how it's supposed to feel! Definitely a lot of slop in the drivetrain, though, which I hope this will fix. We'll see how long this one lasts.....

BTW, SR just emailed back and said the Mazdaspeed ones are discontinued.

Just wanted to follow up on this. I ordered late Monday afternoon, and when I got home Wednesday evening a 30lb box big enough to live in was sitting on my doorstep. And shipping was only $30. Now that's fast!!! When someone does me wrong, I bitch, but I also try to give credit when credit's due....
