Thanks. I also have a vented KS style hood on the way from frpbodykits on ebay, this should help reduce heat soak of all the intake pipes and manifolds. I actually ordered the hood and k&n air filters and was going to make a heat shield but then had this better cold air intake idea. I also have some good aerolite heat reflective tape that I may put on the intake pipes pre turbo if they still get heat soaked hot with the vented hood. And I may do the lim.

 

Pretty cool for those with one oil cooler, make sure you put a mesh screen over the opening or they'll get beaten to hell from rocks and other debris.

I have the herad lamps that were linked above, And i hated them. so i decided to put the stock flippies up and do a lazy/projector mod. That and the so called "angel" eyes blow. its 2 leds pointed away from each other. you don't get the even displacement of light as the picture shows

 

I'm going single turbo now and thinking about building another cold air intake, basically the same as I did for the twin turbos. I have a T04R turbo kit and it looks like I can build another cold air intake the same way, with two 4" 45 degree bend silicone elbows and some 4" pipe and a 90 degree elbow to attach a K&N air filter down in the bumper just like I had before, see pictures of the space I'm working with, everything should fit I think, just have to relocate the ebc solenoid.

Is this not a bad idea? To get cold air into the turbo always is a good thing, it seemed to work great with my twin turbos. As previously mentioned earlier in this thread, I can run the stock headlight modified/bolted down in the upright position so both headlights work, or I have brackets to mount just the headlight cover back on in the down position. Not exactly ideal but hey it's not a daily driver and this would be good for going drag racing. I also installed a cheap ebay HID kit and if I just drive with the drivers side headlight I can actually see better at night than before with two stock headlights.

Not sure about the intake setup, from all the single turbos I've seen most people just clamp a k&n filter to the inlet of the turbo. But true cold air intake has to be better then the heat soaked engine bay air being drawn into the turbo. Also, most stock turbo cars have some sort of intake air piping leading to the inlet of the turbo, so you should be fine. That is if you can fit it all!

Ya that's the elbow from my greddy airinx intake that was on there before I made the cold air intake. And actually I will probably end up selling my cold air intake setup for the twins, the greddy airinx intake, efini y pipe with high quality heat reflective tape on it, and the converted full non sequential turbo manifolds.

 

IMO id get one of those racing flex ducts (the orange one) and just route it from the turbo to wherever u want to get the air from. cheap, and effective. plus all the crazy japs do it on their race cars lol

+1 on that ^ thats what ive been wanting to do to mine since itll be easy to work with and i also get to keep the stock headlight, and also it will be easy to remove "in case" it rains while you are out driving the car

 

I thought about those flexible pipes too, but I read they can create turbulence and I'm sure they don't flow as good as some nice solid mandrel bent pipes and/or silicone 45 degree bends or elbows.

This would give me enough tubing to make it all work, I could cut the 90 degree tubing and use the rest to connect in between the two 45 degree silicone elbows, one clamped to the turbo and the other one will go in the hole to the headlight area, this hole is actually only about 3 7/8" so without further modification a 4 inch tubing bend will not fit as good, but the 45 degree silicone elbow will fit better since it can just squeeze in there. Then the 90 degree tubing will connect there and turn down with the filter clamped to that where it will get cold air just like my two smaller k&n filters got air for my twin turbos.

 

A little pre-turbo water injection won't hurt haha.

First off, well done doing 10s on stock twins, that's dedication!
Alot of people use the flexi pipe, like myself. I also wondered about turbulence it would create. I can imagine that a solid aluminium pipe taking cold air directly would benefit greatly, such as it has on your twins. I'm sure my turbo is still sucking in all sorts of hot air.

I have twin oil coolers however so guess your way wouldn't quite work, inspiring me to make up new intake though! Watching with interest.

 

what elbow are you using on the bov to hook into what appears to be the oe hosing?

I bought a bov flange/adapter pipe that I will splice into the IC pipe that connects to the throttle body.

 

I got my new custom cold air intake installed today, check out the pics at http://www.flickr.com/photos/tom_truxell/ . It was a tight fit but worked out good.

I also got a turbo heat blanket to install. All this combined with my vented hood, heat reflective tape on the lim, and the fmic it should be nice. Now I'm just waiting for a bov adapter pipe before I can drive it and start tuning it.

 

Alright here we go. I installed those halo lights. I love them...

First off, the light output is great (mine are NOT HID). MUCH better output than stock flip ups and I even had PIIA bulbs in the stockers. On the forum, I got nothing but negative responses from people saying they ruin the look of the car. However, I get nothing but compliments in person; at car meets, etc. PLUS I CAN SEE THE ROAD!

You can wire those up however you like. EG: both on all the time, one on for normal headlight and the other for brights. The "brights" arent any brighter, you simply adjust the angle to create a high beam. I wired mine so the halos are on during running light operation and it looks great.

They save weight, and gave me space to route my intake like yours.

The only critique I have is the price of the ones you listed. I grabbed mine for $150 off amazon (no HiD) after one of the stock motors stopped working... Install was sort of a pain to get them flush, but its possible. Another issue is the color of your car. You would probably want to paint the black headlights. MY car is dark enough that they look fine unpainted.

I love the setup! I've planned on doing this myself. I upgraded to a large single oil cooler and was going to make mounts for the headlight cover so they were flush. Then I was going to put bi-xeon motorcycle projectors in my bumper lights (like the FEED ones).

I'd like to hook up my water injection kit but trying to decide where. Pre turbo somewhere in my cold air intake piping, post turbo or post fmic. A few years ago I had it hooked up in the greddy elbow but I didn't like the power loss I was getting with it so I took it off. But now it seems like a Good idea to run it with more power now, but I don't want to hook it up in the elbow where it lost power I assume because it wasn't evaporating enough there.

 

Now THATS a real reason for a 99 spec conversion....

Then you could permanent mount the pop ups down for the ultimate sleek look, great lighting combination....

I am considering that in my cars future now.... Hmmmm

Damn good idea!

I been thinking of selling my hks rs intake and going back to a simple system. While I love the setup, the engine bay is tight and makes cleaning the filter twice a year a complete pain since the secondary filter requires taking off other things to get off, at least in my case.
