My crazy Custom Cold Air Intake Pics

I decided to make my own cold air intake, I didn't think it was helping any by sucking in hot air with the greddy airinx intake while running alot of boost out of the stock turbos, I figured I should try to get some cold air into them turbos and see if it helps, since we know the colder the better. This is a pretty crazy setup I made, since the headlight was removed and I made brackets to reinstall the headlight cover, so it's more of a competition use only intake setup, or primarily daytime driving haha.

I got two K&N air filters part # RB-0720 from amazon, and some of the piping I used from a polished aluminum intercooler piping kit I got off ebay, I ended up using 2 pieces with 90 degree bends and the long straight pipe, and another 5" piece of straight pipe that I used from a section cut off of the one 90 degree pipe.

All thoughts and comments are welcome. I will drive the car on friday to see how it goes.

The car is stripped down alot for drag racing so I figured whats one headlight gonna hurt, also got rid of about 6 lbs of weight from the stock headlight parts haha. Of course I can convert back to the old setup without a whole lot of time to do so.

You can put socks on the filters to keep water out..

I always wondered if Increasing the distance from turbo to filter would some how effect how much air can be sucked in. Could it reduce suction some how ?

I just won't drive it in the rain and I also will be taking the windshield wipers and motor back off since I just got it inspected.

I also thought about the longer intake pipes and did a google search on the subject and some people say longer intake pipe can increase torque and maybe hurt top end a little, but these pipes are a little higher in diameter and don't look bad with those fingers coming off them like the greddy pipes and the air filters are bigger and getting cold air and filter better and should flow more air.

That looks like a pretty good system. The restriction in the pipes will be the diameter, not the length. What is the diameter?

Good to hear, it is 2.5" OD and the greddy pipes are close to 2.25"

I would like to get some aftermarket headlights that would fit and work with this intake setup, does anybody think any will fit? like the cheaper ones on ebay

I just did some testing. it was 59 degrees fahrenheit when I started the car cold, 15 degrees celsius on the pfc. I drove around boosting occasionally and stopping a couple times to let the fast reacting iat sensor heat soak to 30 degrees celsius. I then drove around and the temperature went down to 23 degrees celsius. then I drove around doing second and third gear pulls as much as I could boosting to 20 psi and the intake air temperature stayed at 23 the whole time. Very good! I also added a couple new pictures to my album.

Nice looking setup. if it fits with any aftermarket headlights, it would be a very nice option for people.

... 20 psi, on stock twins? My god man! I guess I can sort of understand that for the drag strip, but on the street it seems that your asking for trouble. Get some BNRs or a single on there asap ;).

I only boost that much when its not hot out and been doing so for a few years, its fast and haven't felt the need to spend big bucks on a bigger turbo setup and been trying to hit 10s with the stock turbos. I think I could make the after market headlights work with this, or hope so anyway.

new pics attached. I cut the top 90 degree bend pipe shorter than it was so that the turn signal light would fit. It all fits good.

I know alot of people don't like the looks, I don't love the looks but don't hate them either, I just think these might be the best possible option to maybe fit with this intake and I like the HID's since hopefully they would work better and I do alot of tuning late at night and could use some better working headlights for safety.

please dont... for the love of all that is holy dont put those on your car, you will regret it the light output sucks.

Haha thanks for the advice. Did you try them is that how you know the light output sucks? The stock headlight output sucks too though, and these ones come with some hid kit, I thought the light output would be better than stock.

Another option would be to put the stock headlight back in and make a bracket to hold it in the up position but it would have to stay up.

I like your idea. I have the GReddy intakes as well and like how they look, but they probably suck hot air. I am thinking of making a fiberglass duct to source fresh air for them.

I used an aluminum duct to direct cold air to the greddy filters, it worked cause the passenger side of the filters were not warm but the drivers side of the filters were warm cause the hot air from the radiator fans blows right onto the filters. so then I decided to make this custom true cold air intake. I'll upload pics of the aluminum duct setup.

There is one pic in my album link above. The duct wrapped around and squeezed next to the radiator to vent the cold air to the filters. But I don't think it works as good as this, cause the filters are still sucking in hot air.

Good to know, I like to build things so I think I'll try it out. I like what you did, but I need m headlight!

I just mounted my headlight back on and bolted it in the up position, without the motor. see pics. I decided to do this since it saves me money and I didn't really like those other headlights I suggested above. Now I got my headlight for driving and tuning at night. When I go to the track, I can take this headlight back off and put my headlight cover on with my brackets, for better aerodynamics.

I did have to cut off part of the headlight frame with the motor attached to it, and I made another bracket and used a couple more bolts to bolt the frame down so it's sturdy. Only other thing is that now there is no way to bolt down the rear headlight cover screws, although I don't think its going to go anywhere, it seems good with just the front two screws holding it on. Although I could make another bracket on the drivers side of the cover to hold it down towards the back.

i was jus wondering where did the oil cooler go?
unless its a touring n u never had 1?
