Well first things first, smelling gas fumes in an rx7 is almost always bad news bears. Engine fires are very prominent amongst these engines. I suggest pulling your upper intake manifold and jumping your fuel pump to pressurize the system and check for leaks. This one is a long shot but I imagine you are no longer running the purge canister, so where is your fuel vapor purge line running to? Open air?

I believe your purge line is at the firewall on the drivers side. On the factory set up, there are 3 lines, a supply, return, and a purge line. I'm sure a search could yield which line is which as I cannot remember off the top of my head. The purge system takes vapors from the gas tank and cycles it through a charcoal canister before metering it into your intake. Its for emissions purposes.

My car was sitting in garage for a few weeks with no battery. I smelled Fuel ALOT of fuel. While changing turbos i saw fuel RUNNING down the side of the block. My fuel pulsation dampener was badly leaking, thank god i fixxed it before driving it and starting a fire. Definately pull off upper intake manifold, and jump the F/P and Ground pins in the diagnostic box to check for fuel leak.

Ps if it turns out to be FPD heres a writeup to eliminate it, the required 'pipe taps' are sold at harbor freight.

if not the vapor canister or FPD, i would jump the fuelpumps and have a look under the car to see if there is some leaks, and i would pull the fuelpump cover and make sure all hoses are in place. if you are running two 044s, you might have upgraded your fuel lines and if you are using cheap hose-clamps, they might be leaky.

He said hes not leaking fuel, so it must be that whoever did your fuel sump setup left one of the hoses from the factory system open at the tank and fumes are escaping

Are you running steel braided lines? If you are Google "braided lines fuel odor" and you will find tons of information about fuel injection and fuel odor.

doesn't mean it's(pulsation damper) not dripping and pooling on the top of the block but not making it to the ground, I've SEEN it. the gas can/will pool between the block and the intake manifold near the oil injectors. if he still has the PD then the 044 pumps likely over power it.

you're talking death of your car here. if you can't test the fuel system and find the cause.. TOW it to someone who can.

Yeah, unbolt the UIM and make sure your FPD is not leaking, then move on to the purge system.
