To much oil?

Well I changed my oil yesterday on my 93 rx-7, it was just a drain and fill so i kept the old oil filter. The Service Manual that I downloaded said to put like 5.6 us quarts. I only put 5 because I compensated for the filter. Is that to much oil I mean reading some topics on the board I found that people were saying 4 quarts is close to over filling. Did I overfill? I have a dipstick pump so I can easily remove excess oil.

Just did a oil change, same filter (only 600 miles between changes... that's why same filter). Only took 4 quarts. If you are over the full mark on the dipstick, yeah... take some out.

Ummm... did you check the dipstick? lol

If it is way over the full mark, then yes, take some out.

And shouldn't you change the filter every oil change?

The entire oil system (pan, oil lines, oil coolers, filter etc) holds 5.6 quarts. The drain plug only drains the oil pan however and it holds 4 quarts, so that's all that comes out when you change the oil. You never have to add more than 4 quarts unless you actually opened the system up and drained everything.
